Sage advice and knowledge from an amazing and successful S&C coach (and former classmate). Eric Cressey is the go-to for pro-Baseball players and SO many parents entrust him with their young hopefuls.

Local-yokel trainers will hammer your kids as they don’t know the research nor do they have real experience or confidence to tell parents what will truly work. Eric is an educated voice in a sea of BS.

Parents of young athletes consider following him for your own benefit and the health and athletic longevity of your child!

Sorry, not sorry. We are being fed a LOT of bologna from our fellow women. Intentions may have started out well but $$$ has gotten in the way and now we’re being charged a pink tax by other women.

Why am I like this? 😭

Oh well anyways…

Unpopular opinion: is NOT evidence based.

“Layne you’re just a misogynist!”

Nope. I just hate when people overcomplicate s**t and ignore massive data sets so they can pretend they have some kind of “special” knowledge.

She was recently on a podcast saying people are “hydrating wrong” because water alone supposedly isn’t absorbed well.

* All the ladies gasp and clutch their Stanleys*

Yes, sodium + glucose can improve hydration during VERY intense exercise in hot environments with heavy sweat loss.

But the average American already consumes WAY more sodium than they need. If humans couldn’t hydrate properly with plain water, we would have died off a long ass time ago 😑

Then there’s the idea that women need special training depending on the phase of their cycle.

The actual research shows menstrual cycle phase does NOT meaningfully affect performance ON AVERAGE (PMID: 32661839).

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t autoregulate based on how you feel… everyone should do that. Some women even report performing BETTER during their cycle.

“Don’t do fasted exercise because CORTISOL!”

Again, no good evidence this impairs fat loss in women (PMID: 31268131).

And trust me, no one has called out more fasting BS than me. In general, I think eating before training is probably a good idea. But if training fasted helps your consistency, it’s NOT going to ruin your hormones or fat loss.

Finally: women are NOT small men. There ARE physiological differences.

But that does NOT mean women need magical “female-specific” programs or that “male training doesn’t work for women.”

When volume and intensity are equated, men and women adapt VERY similarly relative to their starting point (PMID: 40028215)

Ladies, I ain’t hating, I HATE seeing predatory nonsense that attempts to sell you special programs or tries to convince you that your bodies are fragile. They are NOT. You can train hard & adapt while achieving great results with a variety of modalities… just GET AFTER IT and be consistent

Stu Phillips is on 🔥 this week. THIS is the truth! It’s the BIG rocks that pretty much everyone I’ve ever trained (even the athletes!) needed to focus on to get the results they wanted. It’s sexy and alluring to focus on the minutiae but it is NOT the answer. Most of us don’t need “optimization” (little rocks—I’m talking pebbles), we just need to get the big rocks in more regularly. Save your money: exercise/move, sleep, eat sensibly and don’t drink too much

PSA regarding Ab training for 'the look'. Dr Mike is only for the non-easily offended (he does fancy himself a bit of raunchy comedian 😬) BUT the message is SO SPOT ON.

Save the post and share with ANYONE who says they want a six pack.

Note: if you're training abs for stability and core strength and NOT specifically for aesthetics the story is slightly different but still overload principle and specificity of training apply.
