Today, the 15th of August is VJ Day commemorating the surrender of the Japanese in World War Two. My Dad, Captain Alexander Masters and the 1st Gurkha Rifles marched into Burma to finally meet the Japanese during a monsoon storm on 11th December 1941. The Gurkhas were overun by the Saeki Armoured unit driven relentlessly through the maelstrom by Major Saeki. The allied army was humiliatingly ordered to surrender. Thus badly wounded commanding officer Lt Col J.O Fulton and his men became Japanese Prisoners of War. Fulton died of his wounds but my father and his men suffered torment and starvation until the few that survived released by the defeated Nippon army on the 6th September 1945. Four long years of captivity.

Fresh out of the kiln today. Four Grass Green Mugs. This is some progress on throwing pots. Fortunately I’m enjoying learning. Next time they will be better. . pottery.
