Sea Change Atlantic

Sea Change Atlantic Four old blokes who somehow think they've got what it takes to row across the Atlantic! Why are they doing this?

To show they're still alive, and to raise lots of money for their chosen charities.

It's official. As of today, we've got two old men in the Sea Change Atlantic crew. Many happy returns to our very own Simon Burke.

We hope you're doing a 2 hour erg today to celebrate Si?

We had a brilliant day in Hertfordshire yesterday with 100Green. It was an absolute pleasure to put names to faces. We’ll share lots more details about what we got up to over the next few days.

Another exciting stage is preparing the logos of our fantastic sponsors to put on our ocean boat. Thank you all so much!

There’s still room for more so drop us a message if you’d like your company, your name, favorite club or anything added to the boat.

We want to take you with us on this row, warts and all, so we thought we'd share a few lessons we learned during last weekend's 24-hour row. It wasn't all fun and games.

1) It's a marathon not a sprint. As gig rowers we are used to putting the power in (well three of us are anyway). By the end of our weekend row, our puddles were quite frankly pathetic.

2) We've got to be super-organised on the boat. Keep your food in a grab bag within reach attached to the guard rails or you'll disrupt the whole boat, and possibly sleeping rowers, trying to get to it.

3) Do more hours. Learn the equipment. As Donald Trump might put it, drills baby drills. Our auto-helm told us in no uncertain terms that it needed us to put the dagger board in. We've learned that lesson now, but the more we use the boat, the more lessons we'll learn.

4) Work on that core strength - the boat's never flat, so you need to use your core to get an even vaguely equal stroke with both oars. And

5) We need to really focus on making this not just about getting through the row. We need to remember we're in it for the joy too. We'll get across the Atlantic, but we need to make memories while doing it. The pic is of the first sunrise we have witnessed from the boat. We saw (well, 3 of them saw) a dolphin too.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on these lessons.

Adam, Maddie, Rich and Si.

It was long and hard.

5 hours in to our first 24 hour row. No dramas. Yet!

Slept on the boat and woken up to a beautiful morning in Appledore.

If you’re in Appledore this weekend, come and say hi 😃

3 new seats made for the ocean boat. Wood, nuts and bolts and an old chopping board…and a bit of head scratching.
