SEASON ROUND UP 25/26

Falmouth DC secured their place in the St Pirans West Division 2 for the upcoming 26/27 season after this weeks AGM.
Our club objective before the last season started was exactly this, secure , build and progress having being promoted from Division 3 in the 24/25 campaign. A very competitive league and a good standard of football.

Chris Maynard took the reins for his first season in management alongside Andrew Anear as assistant. Both of which confirmed to be continuing on with the club for the upcoming season. The pair guided the club to an 8th place finish in the league, as well as making the Round of 16 in the Junior Cup, in itself a great achievement and the deepest DC have gone in the competition since winning it 3 seasons ago.

The club couldn’t be prouder of the players, a never give up attitude , playing great football and getting results and the club back to winning ways after a dip in form over the Christmas period. DC managed to get results against most of the teams in the league , with only a few clubs beating us twice. With those teams being in the top half of the table and moving up a division for the next season. We feel we’re in a good position moving forward to push up the league and build on the club ambitions.

Falmouth DC had a massive overhaul in players across the season, with just 11 players from the 44 who played in the 24/25 season , carried on. With 18 new additions who joined the club for the 25/26 season. A new squad was built with talent and depth to compete a league above. Not only that, but these changes hugely impacted the dressing room, no disciplinary issues or fines, socials and awards night returned, player sub money paid up , fulfilling all fixtures with a squad and most importantly , players enjoying their football. These may seem like small things that should be happening in a football club, and that’s exactly where we wanted to bring DC back too.

Off the field , Falmouth DC organised their first charity fund raiser for the Movember Foundation. With the large majority of the squad taking part, raised £175.00 towards the charity in aid of men’s mental health, testicular cancer and su***de prevention. We are hugely grateful to those who supported, donated and participated . And we shall be doing the same for this upcoming November.

DC were proud to welcome CEF as our kit sponsor , who provided us with a brand new kit for the year. And will be continuing their support for the upcoming season.

With players enjoying some time off, we’re working hard securing pre season matches. With 5 confirmed already and in hope of another 5 to be locked in, we look to build across the summer with some old faces returning to DC and new faces soon to be welcomed 👀🏆

Falmouth DC celebrated their end of season club awards across the weekend at our club sponsors Pennycomequick in Falmouth. In award of excellence, hard work, performance and dedication across the 2025/26 season.

Golden Boot Winner - Ryan Richardson, despite a 2/3 month absence , Ryan secured another club golden boot for Falmouth DC. His goals and presence up front missed during his injury , and looking forward to having him back to full fitness for next season

U25’s Player - Rhys Jeffery , when available , Rhys a huge benefit to the side. Continuing with G/A on the vast majority of the games he played.

Clubman - Paul Cardell. Aging like fine wine, Paul a huge impact on and off the field. Coming into his 60’s still Lacing up his boots every weekend to run the line for DC. And when short on players, even managing a full 90 minutes and showing the young lads how it’s done. A great steward to the club and lucky to have him on board.

Club Secretary’s Players - James Taylor. Club Captain James a highlight for DC on the pitch and in the dressing room. Gets everyone together , travels away games even when unable to play. Signs of a true team leader .

Most player of the matches - Jack Froud . Froudy cleaned up the majority of the PoTM awards across the seasons games. His work rate, ability and G/A contributions backing up the reason for his awards.

Managers Player - Jack Froud . Again Froud’s performances a shinning light in the team across the season. But also his commitment to the club, turning up on days he may have found the hardest without saying a word. A real honour to have Jack at DC and one we hope to
Keep hold of.

Most Improved - Rio Baggaley . Rio started off as a RB this season, but has been able to play anywhere across the pitch for us. His versatility, attitude and performances have grown week by week as he’s cementing himself as one of the first on the team sheet to be written down.

Players Player - Rio Baggaley . Again Rio’s display in the pitch a pleasure a cut above the rest with backings from all his teammates. Not only that but a joy to play alongside, dedication attitude and the person that Rio is, all of the DC lads on the same wave length in voting for Rio for this years players player.

Congratulations to all the lads who received awards this year, a great effort shown across the season. A few other awards were given between teammates in appreciation for other club members for their hard work, dedication and time put into the club behind closed doors, as well as a few joke awards like most Rugby Conversions to Over 35’s but we won’t be sharing that one 👀

Match Report 28th April
Vs Lizard Argyle
St Pirans League Division 2
Full time 4-0 (HT 0-0)

Falmouth DC ended their season with a long away trip down to the Lizard to face our midweek hosts. With just 12 players available for selection with the long drive after a days work, the fellas put on a great display and team work to see off the season.

Very much a game of 2 halves against a tough opponent who feature in this weeks Junior Cup final.

The first half saw an incredible defensive display, Kyren Coulls started in goal for DC, with a back line of Kyle Walsh, Dan Hollings, Rio Baggaley and veteran Paul Cardell who played a full 90 minutes. All of which kept a strong line during the first half and made it impossible for Lizard to breakdown and get through. With players in midfield and up front working back to help the boys out.

DC nearly took a 1-0 advantage, some great build up play involved Charlie Martin, Jack Froud, Rhys Jeffery combine with Ryan Richardson having the final looping shot. Taken from 30 yards out chipped the last defender and goalkeeper to hit the bottom of the post and trickle along the goal line.

HT 0-0

Manager Chris Maynard making no changes just yet, the team worked well, played for one another and put on one of the best defensive displays of the season so far.
But also understanding the second half would be a different affair, the lack of subs, the wind no longer in our favour and Lizard needing 3 points to keep their promotion and title hopes alive.

It took till the 60th minute before Lizard found their opener. A corner kick swung in to a crowd of players, was met by a missed run and the header thumped into the net.
1-0.

DC very much disappointed having held off Lizard for the majority of the game, heads dropped a little bit and conceded a quick 2nd and 3rd goal.
Another ball crossed in deep was riffled in at the back post with a first time volley by the leading Lizard top scorer. A well executed finish made it 2-0.

The same place, Lizard having luck switching the play quickly against tiring legs. Made it 3-0.

Kia Jeffery was brought on down the left side with his brother, Rhys, on the right of the midfield. Brad Cardell switched into left centre back to play along side his father Paul.

DC still made chances for themselves, Jack Froud combined with Ryan multiple times, both having chances just wide or blocked out.

Lizard rounded up the tie with a fourth goal which was bundled over the line from close range. With the hosts needing a big score line to keep their title hopes alive , loaded players forward. Quick succession shots to saves and blocks , pin balled the ball across to line to make it 4-0.

FT 4-0.

Despite the scoreline we couldn’t be happier of the effort the players showed midweek. Hard graft to travel down there after a days work and making it in time for kick off with a bare squad with nothing to play for.
With many teams and clubs unwilling to fulfil the last few games with nothing to play for, it’s great to run a side where people want to turn up and play.

Match update :

Our fixture vs St Just for tomorrow is OFF. St Just unable to raise a side to travel down to Falmouth . A Home Walkover result and 3 points has been awarded to Falmouth DC .

A shame not to have our last home fixture played with a great squad available for the match.

With the free weekend, few of the DC players will head up to support Falmouth Town AFC for their manager Andy Westgarth’s last game in charge at the club. Who also scored a wonderful goal for DC on his appearance at the start of the season.
Elsewhere a handful of the players at DC will now be well rested for their Sunday Cup final this Sunday over at Mullion for Falmouth Athletico FC - Sunday League vs Lizard Argyle.

Falmouth DC also face Lizard argyle in their last game of the 25/26 season. Which see’s DC travel on Tuesday nights game over at their ground. 18:30 KO , a great 45 minute drive from Falmouth after boys finishing work at 17/18:00. Brilliant!

Falmouth DC host St Just in our last home game of the 25/26 season. On the back of recent performances and results , DC looking to secure another 3 points and cement a mid table finish.

In the previous match between the 2 sides, DC brought home the 3 points from a long away trip. Winning 2-1 with a much smaller available squad to this weekends fixture. With a full team and substitute bench available to Manager Chris Maynard, DC hoping to improve on the goal scoring side.

The race for the DC top scorer looks to come down to the last few games, just a couple of goals separate Jack Froud and Ryan Richardson. Both scoring last weekend in the final sprint.

We would also like to wish a good luck to Falmouth Athletico FC - Sunday League for their final over at Mullion in the Sunday Cup final, with a handful of the DC boys in action Vs Lizard Argyle.

Match Report 18th April
Falmouth DC 3-2 St Agnes 2nds
St Pirans League division 2 west

Falmouth DC managed to hold onto their lead and see out the fixture to take all 3 points in their weekends fixture against a youthful St Agnes side. Without much to play for in the fixture , both sides places in the division most likely secured going forward to next season , the game played in good spirits and provided an entertaining game for the mutual.

All 3 of DC’s top scorers on the scoresheet in the games fixture as the race for the Falmouth DC top scorer looks to go to the last few games.

DC took the lead through Dan Hollings. Ryan Richardson’s throws causing problems again for another team, the ball launched looping unit he box. Captain for the game Harry Perry flicked the ball onwards where Dan Hollings met the ball at the back stick and nodded in the opener beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
1-0

Jack Froud doubled the lead, with great precision on set plays this season, managed to score an Olimpico. His deep corner curled into the back post catching everyone off guard.
2-0.

Now in control of the game DC started to play some better football. Jake Nash alongside Dan H in centre backs, with Brad Cardell and Rio as full backs managed to play out from defence into midfield to settle the tempo with the lads already feeling the strains of 2 games in a few days. Harry Perry paired with Charlie Martin in the centre of the pitch found their passing range , bringing in wide players Zach Maunder and Rhys Jeffery into the game and caused problems for the St Agnes defence.

Rhys’ work rate was fantastic all game, pressing high, chasing loose balls and covering the right channel front to back. Rhys combined with Jack Froud and eventually Ryan Richardson in the break. With Ryan lofting the ball over the goalkeeper from 25 yards to give DC a 3 goal advantage heading towards the end of the the first half .

St Agnes came into the game a little more, having some chances narrowly wide or saved by DC keeper Dan McKenna.

HT 3-0
DC knowing after the Wednesday game, after scoring 3 first half goals might not be enough to see out the game. With DC looking leggy without the option of substitutes other than Veteran Paul Cardell to bring into the game. No changes made just yet, but a slight tweak in formation by Chris Maynard in efforts to get the game over the line.

The opening 25 minutes of the half, both teams cancelled one another out. Coming close with chances, goalkeepers making saves and both teams looking for the opener of the half.

St Agnes pulled a goal back into the game.
The initial shot was saved well and low by Dan McKenna, but the rebound tucked away by the young St Agnes forward from 3yds to reduce their deficit.
3-1.

Paul Cardell replaced his son Brad due to injury with 15 minutes left to play. Paul making his 3rd appearance of the season and not looking to slow down on playing just yet. A great steward to the club over the years and still lacing up his boots was our only sub made where we could ideally have done with a full bench of substitutes.

DC caught out short at the back following an attacking corner kick. With players up in the box, exhausted legs and unable to keep up with the youth and pace of St Agnes as the game went on, a quick Anges break saw them pull back another goal to make it 3-2.

It couldn’t happen to DC twice in a week could it???

Fortunately not, DC managed to hold on for the remaining 5/10 minutes of the game to see out the victory. A full display of park the bus to secure the 3 points.

Full time 3-2.

Well done to all the players and management for bouncing back after midweek to grab the win this weekend. With little the play for at the end of the seasons it’s always extra work to keep motivated and players interested in playing. Great bunch of players we have at the club, and hopefully keep a hold of them as we look to build for next season.

Credit to St Agnes for days game, a great effort from them keeping going till the last minute themselves. A squad full of young players we’re sure to see playing higher league football as they age.

18th April , 14:30 KO

St Pirans league division 2 West

Falmouth DC host St Agnes today in one of the final 3 remaining games for DC’s season.
Falmouth hoping to bounce back from midweeks last minute defeat. With St Agnes on the back of a defeat themselves losing 9-0 to Goonhavern on the same day. Both teams looking to improve and push up the table in the final few fixtures.

The previous game between the 2 sides resulted in an end to end 4-4 draw at Enys Park. With double braces from Ryan R and Dan H, DC looking to continue to scoring form but improve the defensive to the game.

With surrounding table teams playing each other, each match week leapfrogs teams above one another. After all fixtures today, results could see teams drop to 12th but jump to 8th in the table. Falmouth DC looking to finish North of that as St Agnes visit us on the South Coast of the county.

Referee appointment still pending for today’s game. But all players up and ready for the fixture. Chris Maynard has selected his squad for the game , and all kit numbers true to players, all players should be able to enter the field of play.

Match Report - 15th April
St Pirans League Division 2
Full time : Mawnan 4 - 3 Falmouth DC (HT 1-3 )

Falmouth DC suffered a narrow last minute winner to Mawnan FC on Wednesday night in a game of 2 very different halves, having taken a first half lead.

Falmouth DC on the front foot, with Rhys Jeffery and Zach Maunder working the channels created plenty of chances with quick runs behind the back line. Resulting in plenty of corners and throw ins from promising areas.
Ryan Richardson using his long throw nearly provided 2 assists , with Zach and Harry Perry glancing chances just wide or over the cross bar.

A quick break from Rhys linking up with Jack Froud, then found the feet of Ryan to tuck the ball away into the net. Only to be flagged for an offside.
Mawnan came into the game and grabbed the opening goal. DC failed to clear their lines and got pressed high, resulting in giving the ball away and the Mawnan forward having a clear shot at goal to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

DC pulled a goal back shortly after. Ryan and Zach linking up, down the left side. With Maunder putting in a delivery for Jack Froud to have his header hand balled off the line by a Mawnan defender. Ryan Richardson stepped up to the spot kick and converted his effort. 1-1

Falmouth looked comfortable in the middle of the pitch, with Harry, Charlie Martin and Jack Froud passing around, winning 1st and 2nd balls. Mawnan perhaps a bit frustrated not capitalising on their aerial presence gifted DC plenty of free kicks.

One was given just inside the Falmouth half of the pitch. With the sun in the face of Mawnan , the ball had to put in on the goalkeeper. Dan Hollings launched into the box and sailed straight into the back of the net to give a 2-1 scoreline to Falmouth DC.

With confidence now in the visitors, more of the same continued, playing down the channels , working the ball on the floor. Kyle Walsh and Brad Cardell rotated at supporting runs with the wide players.

Another Ryan Richardson throw causing more problems, like the free kick, put in on the goalkeeper. This time the Home side goalie pushing the ball into his own net to concede the goal. 3-1 to DC.

Mawnan started to come into the game in the remaining 15. The DC back line coping well with Rio Baggaley sweeping in anything launched forward. And Dan McKenna making some solid stops and commanding his area.

HT Mawnan 1-3 Falmouth DC

Manager Chris Maynard and assistant Andrew Anear knew that the second half would be very much a different story. With conditions now in favour of the hosts and experience in their favour. We couldn’t expect to be as attacking as the first half.

The first 20 minutes of the 2nd half end to end for both teams, creating a few chances saved or blocked by goalkeepers and defenders.
Subs made - Jake Nash and Sean Fry came onto the field, to replace Harry Perry and Brad Cardell who wasn’t allowed to continue play for wearing shirt number 19 when the team sheet had 18 on.

Mawnan quickly scored a brace of goals from the exact same positions. DC having too many forward when needing to sit and hold the lead. Left a pocket of space out wide, where the tricky left winger had joy scoring 3 goals in the game.
DC’s 3-1 lead became a 3-3 tie.

Both teams pressed for the matches 7th goal in the closing 10 minutes.

A strange turn of events resulted in the games winning goal. The DC keeper picked the ball up twice resulting in an indirect free kick, without hesitation the Mawnan forward passed the ball to a teammate to finish into an empty net.

Full time 4-3

A frustrating evening out for Falmouth DC after falling behind from a strong position and not learning from mistakes.
But a great effort from the lads for the first half especially, playing some of the better football of the season.

Falmouth DC take a short drive over to Mawnan FC this Wednesday for a midweek, mid table clash.

A win for DC would could see them climb up 3 spots in the table. After no fixture on the weekend just gone, slipped us down the table with other teams playing.

In the reverse fixture between the 2 clubs, saw DC come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in the final moments of the game. With Juan Abalsamo scoring the winner. But a huge effort from the lads on the game is exactly what DC are needing in the last few remaining fixtures of the league.

Manager Chris Maynard has named and selected his squad with just a few absences from regular players due to work commitments in the last of the Easter break and Freddie Christopher’s who’s expecting the arrival of his first child. DC would like to send them the best wishes to Freddie and his wife.

No match fixture for Falmouth DC this weekend , as we turn our attention to next Wednesday where we face Mawnan Reserves back in league action.

4 miles and 6 points separate the 2 clubs with just the last few fixtures left to play.

Falmouth DC looking to bounce back once again after 2 defeats, finish the season on a high and creep up the table.
DC unfortunate last weekend losing 3-1 to St Ives Mariners. Playing good football once again just struggling to find the back of the net.
