Fridays Match Report

We travelled to Falkland on what looked like a lovely evening for a game of football in a fantastic location. Once out in the warm up we discovered very quickly that the wind could cause some issues for both teams as the word ‘Blustery’ comes to mind.

We started to match with the wind with us and after a very quick start we won a few corners and on the second corner Anton Brown whipped in an incredible corner to which Craig Innes rose well to bullet his header into the top corner, 1-0 after 4mins. (Footage below)
After this we got sucked into trying to play long through balls which isn’t our style and majority of the time ran onto the keeper or way out of play. David Quinn did have an effort but he was stretching and was a comfortable save for the keeper.
On 20 mins we lost our captain Anton Brown to injury and with no defenders on the bench we had to jiggle a few things about.
On 28 mins, Falkland equalised. Slavk passing in midfield allowed the Falkland player to hit a strike from edge of the box into the bottom right hand corner. 1-1
Falkland then had another 2 good chances, one skiffing the bar and the other the attacker rushed his shot and went wide.

HT: 1-1

The second half shooting into the wind we felt we might get more joy in this half but frustrating this wasn’t to be the case. Although the effort and determination was there for all to see we just couldn’t get going at all and the game became very scrappy at times with not much good football on show. On 70 mins we did create one chance of note where a neat one two played Del Mathieson in and from wide left he fired a drive towards goal but unfortunately it went just over the bar.
On 75 mins Falkland got their second of the night which from our point of view could’ve been dealt with better.
The last 15 mins was uneventful with only a slight half chance fell to Kev Craik but his effort flew wide of the post.

FT - 2-1 to Falkland, who secured there first 3 points of the league cup campaign and who now top the group. (League Table below)

Falkland 35’s 2 - 1 Scone Thistle 35’s

Tonight we welcomed Scone Thistle to Tyndall Bruce Park for a Perthshire League Cup Tie.

The match kicked off in blustery conditions and we went 1-0 down early in the match when a header flew into the top corner from a corner.
We were unlucky not to draw level when Ian Muirs effort came back of the bar then the visiting keeper made a good save again from Ian Muir.
The match was end to end but we eventually got back on level terms when Bruce Simpson scored from 16 yards low into the bottom corner.
Second half both teams created some chances but we saw a few efforts narrowly miss the target but on 75 mins Blair scored from a header from a corner to put us 2-1 in front and we saw the remainder of the game out to get a win from the match billed as Battle of the Palace’s !!!!!

Many thanks to Scone Thistle for coming down and we wish them well in their fixtures.

Our next fixture is on Friday 12th June

It ends in disappointment in Falkland. We just never got going tonight unfortunately. Thanks to Falkland AFC for hosting who played very well and deserved the victory. Great hospitality afterwards too which was much appreciated.

Falkland AFC 2 - 2 Jefferson Select
Falkland Win 3-0 on Pens

Last night we welcomed Jefferson’s family and friends to Tyndall Bruce Park for the 13th annual memorable match.

The match kicked off in the evening sunshine after a minutes silence was held.

Jefferson Select were given a very early opportunity when a handball saw a penalty awarded.
However a great save from M.Swinnerton kept the score at 0-0.

Play was end to end for the whole 90 mins as both teams created chances.

Jefferson Select went 1-0 in front and immediately from the restart Falkland made it 1-1 with a Ford header.

Before half time Gary Sutherland put Falkland 2-1 in front with goal of the night a brilliant strike into the top corner.
Minutes later he almost scored with an identical effort but was inches away.

Then Pratt in Jefferson select goal pulled of a fantastic one handed save.

Second half saw play go from end to end the Jefferson’s select were unlucky when they rattled the bar but did draw level on 75 mins.

Both teams went for a late winner but the entertaining 90 mins finished 2-2 and the Jefferson Memorial Cup would be decided by penalties.

Swinnerton saved well the first two and Falkland scored their 3 and after Jefferson’s Select 3rd landed in the duck pond it was Ben Hampton who received the cup from Jefferson’s dad Bert.

Thankyou for the large turnout,it was great to see so many come along and support Wilma & Bert.

See you all next year.
