IT BEGINS WITH THE HEATHER ON THE RUGGED HILLS OF SCOTLAND,
GROWING FAST AND FERTILE, SMUDGING THE SLOPES WITH PURPLE AND WHITE.
The druids thought heather sacred. Brides and warriors thought it lucky.
Scotland’s sheep think it delicious and graze upon the ling (a name derived from the Norse Lyng, meaning fire).
Heather-grazing sheep grow wool steeped in fortune and fire, and that fine wool is shorn and sent to weavers to spin and dye.
That fine, lucky, energised wool goes to the Mill where they prepare, weave and finish the Tartan.
It's Earth Day, which also coincides with the start of Fashion Revolution week, inviting us to reflect on where our clothes come from.
Fashion is one of the most polluting industries in the world, which is why a shift toward slow fashion is so important. Slow fashion takes a sustainable and ethical approach, focusing on well made, long lasting garments instead of mass produced, disposable fashion.
It’s not only about how clothes are made but what they are made from. Our fabrics and accessories are crafted from wool, nature’s most resilient and versatile fibre.
The beauty of wool:
• Renewable: Naturally regrows each year.
• Durable: Elastic and strong, built for a lifetime of wear
• Biodegradable: At the end of its life, wool returns to the earth
• Plastic Free: Unlike synthetics, wool doesn’t release microplastics into the environment
Combined with our skilled craftsmanship and quality manufacturing here in Scotland, we are committed to creating high quality pieces, made with longevity.
In the world of fast fashion, make considered choices: buy fewer, choose well and invest in quality.
