Thought I'd drop in on HRH at Sandringham this morning. 👑☕️ Oh and I enjoyed a half marathon around the estate whilst I was there. 🏃‍♂️💨🏁🏅

It was an interesting course shall we say. The tarmac sections were oober fast, the ankle deep grass sections were oober slow and the off road woodland parts were really quite technical. Course was also a little bit short for a half marathon but overall I really enjoyed it and would definitely go back to race there again. 😊

Last run of notable length this morning before next weekends Race to the King. A 100km ultra marathon on the South Downs.

Venturing this year into the world of ultras and trying to master the art of running slowly for a long time has been an eye opener for sure. But with my best mate and training partner for company I have grown to love the peace and solitude of long distance running in what now feels like my second home of Willingham Woods.

I'm attempting this ultra marathon to mark my 50th year on the planet. Middle age looms on the horizon but I have no intention of slowing down anytime soon. "Use it or lose it" as the saying goes and that is exactly what I intend to do.

Mrs MLF and I along with our friends Steve & Kerry, popped along to Market Rasen Parkrun this morning to help celebrate their 100th event. Weather was optimal for a quick time so I donned the racing shoes and planned to have a go. Unfortunately I ignored all the pacing advice that I like to dish out to others and went off like a scolded cat. 🏃‍♂️💨 Anyone who has started a race too hard will know that this tactic seldom ends well and true to form, it wasn't long before I "deployed the parachute" as they say and was left desperately trying to hold on to what little speed I had left! 🤦‍♂️ Hey ho, there's always next Saturday.

That's the beauty of Parkrun. It doesn't matter whether you're aiming for a time, socially running with friends or kick-starting your weekend with some exercise. Parkrun is FREE and the next one is never more than 7 sleeps away. 💤 😁

Glorious morning for a long cross-country run in Willingham Woods with my best mate. 🏃‍♂️🐕💨 That's another training step towards my goal this year of completing 100k ultra marathon before my 50th Birthday. 💯

As the long runs have increased in length, so has Monty's walks. How exactly do you explain to an excited labrador that he needs to pace himself?! 🤷‍♂️

What a fantastic run in the sun this morning with local ultra-marathon legend Nick Lister. 20 times up Steep Hill in Lincoln is a tough ask but made easier with great company and watching the Lincoln GP Ladies race. We even got a "whoop whoop" from one of the pro riders as we ran past which was nice. 😎😁

Another week, another slog-fest on the Wattbike and treadmill but not feeling the love this time around. Having had a cold for most of the week, it turned out to be a snotty and weezy experience! To paraphrase Black Adder: I felt like an asthmatic ant carrying some heavy shopping. 🤧🥵

At least Mrs MLF had some fun with the slow-mo video feature. 🎥😎

Saw this the other day and thought... hmm, yes and no. 🤔 The 30/70 (I prefer 20/80) rule is still very important. You can't compete with what you eat as the saying goes. But I agree with the overall sentiment of this message. Whatever your health & fitness goals are, whether it's fat/weight loss, general fitness or competition. It's unlikely you'll be successful unless you are 100% committed to both exercise and your diet. 🏋💪🏃🥑🥗😎

A cold and blustery Parkrun for Mrs MLF and I this morning. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️💨🥶

Neither of us were really up for it this morning but we got up, got it done and now feel invigorated and ready to take on the day! 💪🏻

It is true what they say. The fresh coffee always tastes better after a run. ☕😋😊
