"Go on, jump in.”
Sometimes one sentence is all it takes for a fun day to turn into a tragedy.
This , the Angling Trust is supporting the RLSS UK campaign β€” encouraging young people to look out for each other around water.
Cold water shock, hidden hazards and strong currents can affect anyone β€” even strong swimmers. Last year, more than 70% of those who lost their lives during the heatwave were teenage boys.
Real mates don’t pressure friends into taking risks.
Real mates speak up.
- β€œNah, not worth it.”
- β€œDon’t jump.”
- β€œLet’s stay safe.”
If something feels risky, say something.

We’re often generously given tackle by the local angling community and local tackle shops, which we pass on to younger anglers getting started in fishing.

But this one has genuinely blown us away.

Thanks to an incredibly kind legacy gift from a local angler, given with the aim of helping new people into fishing, we’re able to offer:

🎣 20 free Try Fishing places
🎣 50 half-price Try Fishing places

Our Try Fishing programme is all about giving people that first step into angling, so we felt the best way to honour the gift was with a mix of free and discounted places.

It couldn’t have come at a better time, with the school holidays fast approaching and lots of families looking for something positive, affordable and outdoors to do.

Use code:

FREEFISHING for a free place
FISHFORHALF for half price

Once the codes are gone, they’re gone.

If you already fish, please tag or forward this to a friend who might like to come and give fishing a go.

🎣 THE RIVER IS NOW OPEN! 🎣

The river closed season has now come to an end, and anglers can once again enjoy river fishing.

Please note that our club river stretch remains fly fishing only until 30th September. On this section, anglers must fish with an artificial fly only, using barbless hooks, with catch and release only and a maximum of 8 trout per day.

All other river stretches are now open for fishing using bait, fly or lure, in accordance with Environment Agency regulations and local fishery rules.

We kindly ask all anglers to familiarise themselves with the rules before fishing and to respect both the fish and the environment.

πŸ“– For our full list of club rules, please visit our website.

Good luck to everyone heading out onto the river, and we hope you enjoy a successful season ahead!

!!! IMPORTANT INFORMATION !!!

As you are aware we have been subject to a recent phishing attack that has exposed email addresses of members to spam emails.

We would like to take this opportunity to lay out our plans moving forwards and what steps we have and will be taken to both resolve this issue and maximise security moving forwards.

Firstly:
We have changed all access passwords to the affected email account and the system will be being checked through by a skilled IT technician to ensure security is not further compromised and any forwarding addresses etc are disabled.

We have followed the process of self assessment for a data breach with the ICO. The Information Commissioners Office. The results of which are being carried out by officers of the club.

Secondly:
Moving forwards ALL communication will primarily be via the Clubmate app in the first instance; followed by page or group posts. If the club does need to use email then it will be from a centralised β€œgeneric” email from an officer account: [email protected] in most likelihood.
The generic accounts are only accessible by club officers and can be checked by any of the officers to ensure security and transparency is kept.

Again; we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and reiterate if you have any concerns please email: [email protected] or message us via Clubmate or Facebook.

⚠️ MEMBER NOTICE ⚠️

We would like to make members aware of a recent issue involving the club secretary’s email account.

The account appears to have been the victim of a phishing attack, where access to the email account was obtained and then used to send emails from that address.

At this stage, there is no indication that any club systems, Clubmate accounts, or payment information have been compromised. The only information that may potentially have been visible would be email addresses contained within the affected account.

As a precaution, we advise members to remain vigilant and avoid clicking on suspicious links or responding to unusual emails. If you are unsure whether an email is genuinely from the club, please contact us directly through our official page or website.

Appropriate steps have already been taken to secure the account and prevent any further issues.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

🎣 Members River Fly Fishing Meet-Up 🎣

An informal fly fishing meet-up exclusively for members of Fakenham Angling Club on our club stretch of the River Wensum above Hempton.

This is aimed primarily at members who are new to fly fishing on the river, or who have limited experience, although one or two more experienced fly-fishers would also be welcome to come along and share tips and advice.

Please note:
β€’ This is NOT a formal tuition session or beginner introduction to fly fishing
β€’ You will need to bring your own equipment
β€’ It’s simply an opportunity to meet fellow members, exchange ideas and experiences, and pick up a few tips about fishing for wild brown trout on this beautiful chalk stream

πŸ‘ Volunteer Appreciation Post πŸ‘

A big thank you to Les, Chris, Mally & the rest of the team over at Foxley for their continued hard work and dedication πŸ‘Š

They’ve been busy making great improvements to the otter fencing, helping to better protect our stock and ensure the future of the fishery. Work like this doesn’t go unnoticed – it takes time, effort, and a real commitment to the club.

Projects like this are vital, and it’s volunteers like these who make it all possible. The ongoing improvements at Foxley are a credit to you all πŸ‘

If you see them on the bank, be sure to give them a well-deserved thank you!

πŸ‘ Volunteer Appreciation Post πŸ‘

A big thank you to the five volunteers who gave up their time on Saturday to carry out essential maintenance work along our club stretch of the river.

Your efforts cutting back pathways and clearing banks have made a huge difference β€” the entire club stretch is now accessible and ready for fishing again. 🎣

Work like this doesn’t go unnoticed. It’s what keeps our waters safe, fishable, and enjoyable for everyone.

Just a reminder to all members:
πŸ‘‰ On our club stretch of the river, fly fishing only is permitted until the 30th of September

From all of us at Fakenham Angling Club β€” thank you for your hard work and continued support. πŸ’™
