Diss Started their 2nd game in the Premier with a 1-0 win behind them but facing newly formed East Coast Ladies 2’s who had a 4-1 the previous week so were unsure what to expect.
Diss started strongly and with 30 seconds in saw a cracking shot from Nicki Day just go wide of the post. This spurred Diss on and some lovely play between midfield resulted in a short corner after 4 minutes. Diss then fell foul to one of the new rules which saw injector Sam Howard sent to the half way line as it was deemed that Lucy Kershaw stepped into the ‘D’ before the ball was played. There was a little confusion following and East Coast managed to clear the 2nd attempt at the corner.
Diss settled down and plied the pressure on with some great play between new comer Corrinne Walker and Sarah Wood which resulted in a further short corner after 7 minutes. This time Diss were calm and Nicki Day received the ball played to Sam Howard who slotted it in behind the keepers back.
This took the pressure of Diss and they were able to play their own game which resulted in some lovely passes which was a pleasure to watch. 20 minutes in saw a blister of a cross injected in from Tash Blakely but no one could get their stick to it.
East Coast did look dangerous on the break but Diss defence stood firm and Goal Keeper Burton wasn’t troubled too much but deflected anything that came her way with ease.
25 minutes in saw a further short corner awarded and again Sam Howard saw the ball across the line. Diss carried on putting on the pressure which resulted in Danni Strange putting a nice little ball across the East Coast Keeper which saw Sam Howard score her 3rd.
Half time 3-0
Diss started the 2nd half with gusto.
Great interaction between Maddie Cates, Sam Howard and Lucy Kershaw resulted in a high shot from Nicki Day not just missing the net but also out of the perimeter fence.
Day was not to be denied and saw her slam a shot home on 57 minutes, followed by a further goal from a short corner on 70 minutes.
Nearing the end of the 2nd half Sam Howard found herself in possession and with her magic dribbling skills managed to thwart the East Coast keeper making the final score 6-0.
POM Sam Howard
