These sessions are for those new to winter swimming. They will take you through swim preparation, kit list, the open water environment, cold-water shock and swimming in cold water, the importance of risk assessing and emergency planning, how to warm up safely and of course opening your eyes to the delights of swimming in the open air without the bounds of lane ropes!
Open to all ability swimmers.
This course is highly recommended if you are new to open water as the experience of swimming outdoors is very different to that of the indoor pool.
The session will include a land-based discussion, as well as a swim in the sea.

Join us for our 'Into The Chill' winter swimming course. Aimed at anyone looking to swim as the sea temperature starts to drop.
Information, advice, hints, tips and the opportunity to meet other like minded individuals of similar ability to yourselves.
We will cover a relevant topic each week, for example, cold water shock and how to warm up safely, and very importantly where to look for information before even leaving the house for your swim. We will also swim each week (unless conditions do not allow and then we will add a session on to the end).

Introduction - We are Ruthy (right) and Lizzie (left) your water loving swim coaches. We both hold our level 2 swim instructors qualifications in both pool and openwater settings. This year we also upgraded our lifeguard qualifications to become Surf Lifeguards (thanks to Big Keith at Exmouth Beach Rescue Club🤙).
We both grew up by the beach, swimming & surfing, and have been involved with water sports for as long as we can remember. We've, also, both been passing on our knowledge through teaching for nearly 2 decades each 💪.
Whilst we are both very competent swimmers it's important we play to our interests and strengths; for Ruthy she loves getting new swimmers in the openwater and seeing the sheer joy from those mood-enhancing endorphins giving a multitude of benefits and for myself, Lizzie, I love the challenge of moving from the pool to the openwater and looking at developing the stroke to adapt to the various conditions and challenges that the sea brings 🏊‍♂️🏊‍♀️🌊.

Switched the pool for the sea for Mario's session tonight, it was so flat we could still work on technique. Mario is working with Andy at Exercise Science Consulting Ltd to train for the Barcelona Ironman and I'm lucky enough to be training him for the swim element 🏊🏼‍♀️🏊🏼‍♂️
