While we have lots of fun training up our Nippers and Juniors there is a serious aim as they can choose to become beach lifeguards and be ready to carry out rescues such as thisβ¦
On Sunday 31 May at 9.30am an EBRC lifeguard, prepping for Sunday training, went out on a rescue paddle board and assisted a kite surfer who had got his line's wrapped around one of the lifeboat launching marker buoys.
The lifeguard assisted the experienced male kite surfer to untangle his rigging and helped him to shore along with his equipment. He did not need any further medical attention.
EBRC has a minimum of a level 1 patrol (observation) when the club is manned, with the ability to react up to level 4 IRB (inflatable rescue boat).
EBRC is a declared facility with HM Coastguard and we log on with them when we are able to. This enables us to be tasked by them when available.
We also work as a Search and Rescue (SAR) unit and can and have been tasked to assist D&C Police for water/coastal based searches for missing persons.
This Sunday our training will be part of the great events taking place on the water for Exe Regatta
