I love reading my client wins!

Wins are different for everyone, but there’s always something so lovely about others noticing your hard work.

Its not about validation from others, but there’s something nice about people complimenting others 💜

I’m a personal trainer and I haven’t trained properly for weeks.

Do I feel guilty about that? Yeah, sometimes.

But right now, my body is heavily pregnant, I’m uncomfortable, I’m dealing with aches and pains, and my priorities are changing by the day.

Could I force myself to train? Probably.

Would that necessarily be the best thing for me right now? No.

I’ve spent years learning that movement is important for physical and mental health, which is absolutely true. But listening to your body is part of being healthy too.

There will be times where you can train hard, make progress and push yourself.

And there will be times where your version of looking after yourself is walking, stretching, resting, eating well and simply getting through the day.

Neither makes you more or less committed to your health.

You don’t lose your fitness mindset just because you aren’t currently training the way you normally would.

Sometimes, knowing when to step back is just as important as knowing when to push yourself đŸ€

If you’re struggling with consistency right now, this is your reminder that this doesn’t mean being perfect.

It doesn’t mean never missing a workout.
It doesn’t mean eating clean all the time.
It doesn’t mean always feeling motivated.

Consistency will look different depending on the season of life you’re in.

Some weeks you might be smashing your workouts and feeling really motivated. Other weeks, simply going for a walk, making a nourishing meal or taking some time to rest might be all you have the capacity for.

That doesn’t mean you’ve failed or fallen off track.

Doing what you can, with what you have, in the season you’re currently in is still progress đŸ€

Stop waiting for the “perfect” time to be consistent. Find a version of consistency that fits your life right now.

Currently:

Growing a baby
Trying to rest more
Walking when I can
Preparing for maternity leave
Eating my way through the fridge
And reminding myself that slowing down is okay.

Oh
and wearing crocs! đŸ€Ż

Things have taken a turn in this last week!

Pelvic girdle pain, back pain and everything just feels so much more difficult, even walking. At 36 weeks, I’m really grateful that I’m only just starting to feel this way as so many women struggle for the majority of their pregnancies.

So it’s important to use these final few weeks to prioritise rest, connection and movement where possible. It’s not selfish, it’s necessary! 💜

There have been a lot of things over the years that the fitness industry has taught women, that aren’t necessarily true - these are just some of them!

Whether you need to work harder, eat less, or increase your cardio is all dependant on your goals. This isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ approach and everyone will need something slightly different.

However, when it comes to ‘you’re too old to lift heavy’
this is always wrong! You’re never too old to start and it’s never too late to get into the gym. As we get older, strength training becomes more important to support bone and joint health, whilst allowing you to continue doing the things you love.

And it’s totally normal to have some time off, especially when you go off on holiday with your partner, family or friends. That time off is not going to ruin your progress, but it’s your ability to come back to that routine straight away that will make the difference between succeeding or not.

If you’re looking for personalised workouts and nutrition, I have 1-1 online coaching spaces available 🙌 Let’s have a chat about your goals and start getting some things in motion! đŸ’ȘđŸ»

Things I wish more women knew

Swipe for captions đŸ‘‰đŸ»

For most women, 2-4 well-structured strength sessions alongside regular movement is plenty.

Building muscle and, if appropriate for you, reducing body fat is what creates the appearance most women mean when they say they want to “tone”.

Your overall diet matters far more than whether you have the occasional takeaway, chocolate bar or glass of wine.

If you’re constantly doing something different, you’re making it harder to know whether what you’re doing is actually working. Give good programming time to work.

Your body changes as you age, but “my metabolism has completely stopped working” isn’t an explanation for every change in body composition.

If you’re exhausted, stressed, sleeping badly and constantly trying to squeeze in another workout, the answer might be more recovery, not another HIIT session.

You may need to adapt your training, nutrition and recovery as your circumstances change, but women don’t suddenly need to abandon everything they knew about exercise because they hit a particular birthday.

Being strong, fit, capable and healthy is a pretty good goal too.

Consistency doesn’t mean doing the same thing every day. It means adapting the thing so you can keep doing it throughout the different seasons of your life.
