🏉 MATCH REPORT — Talywain RFC U15s vs Bargoed RFC U15s

Opening Game of the Season | Away at Talywain RFC.

A tough, physical start to the campaign — but plenty to build on.

Today marked our first match of the season, and we made the trip to Talywain RFC — always a fiercely physical contest, and today was no different.

First Half
We were right in the thick of it from the off, defending strongly and restricting Talywain’s forward momentum. Our defensive shape held firm, but a handful of small errors allowed the hosts to break through for the game’s opening try. We regrouped, dug in, and fought our way back onto the scoreboard — right in the fight at the break.

Second Half
A positive start to the second period, but as the game wore on, our intensity dropped and Talywain made some sharp tactical changes that paid off. They pulled ahead and added further points to seal the result.

Shay is another player who has progressed through every age group at the club, starting in Tots and representing each team right through to the U15s. A few years ago, Shay made the move from the back row to scrumhalf to help the team when we were short of a number 9, and he stepped up brilliantly. Last season, he continued to impress while playing both scrum-half and back row, delivering a number of good performances that earned him the Players' Player of the Year award. We are looking forward to seeing Shay back in action and continuing his development this season

Zak is another player who has progressed through every age group at the club, starting in Tots and representing teams at every level through to the U15s. A versatile back, he is equally comfortable playing at centre, full-back, or wing, and even stepped in at fly-half when the team needed him last season.

Zak enjoyed an outstanding campaign last year, producing a number of standout performances that earned him both the Back of the Year and Supporters' Player of the Year awards, a fantastic achievement and recognition of his hard work and commitment.

Zak joined us last season and quickly proved himself to be a valuable addition to the squad. A powerful, hard-running No. 8, Zak combines the physicality of a forward with the pace and athleticism of a back. He is a constant threat in attack and a strong presence in defence.
