Bicton XC Duathlon

After much deliberation, it is with regret that we have decided to cancel the Bicton XC Duathlon 2017.

The reason for cancellation is due a licensing issue with the landowner of Woodbury Common. Despite applying for the same license as used in 2016 back in March this year, we have been asked to supply an additional insurance requirement that we have been unable to resolve despite our best efforts. The landowner only informed us of this requirement recently, and as we are so close to the event date we couldn't take the risk of delaying the decision any longer.

As this cancellation is due to a local issue regarding land use of the Woodbury Common, it is in no way connected to our other event, the Killerton Duathlon, which will fully intend to run next year in 2018.

Thank you for interest in the event, obviously we are hugely disappointed we have to take this decision.

We're pleased to say Andy and Sue from Exmouth Cycles are supporting our event for a second year. To start, they've very kindly offered a 25% service discount for any entrant who would like their bike made 'tip top' ready for the race. If you're based in the Exmouth or surrounding area this is certainly worth considering!

Have you seen our cycle route? Riders will complete 1 or 2 laps of a multiple surface 7km loop on the beautiful Woodbury Common. MTB or CX, experienced or novice, the route is suitable for all!

Not only do we have the family friendly Fun Run but we have children's (ages 7+) bike skills with Adventurecise UK. Your child/ren will be taught basic off road riding skills of balance, body position and cornering. They'll also use ramps for jumping!

2017 Fun Run details.
When: Sunday 8th October @ 10am.
Registration: From 9am.
Distance: 3k.
Who for? Anyone, no upper or lower age restriction.
How much? £3.
Advanced sign up? Yes, please email [email protected] with the entrants name, age and gender.

The fun run is being organised by Otterton Primary School's parents association. They're experienced at organising running events and are behind the Reindeer 10k run that's held later in the year. All funds from the fun run will go to the Raleigh Federation. They will also be providing the catering for the entire event this year, again all revenues from this will go to the federation.
We hope the introduction of a fun run is an extra incentive to those of you who would like to take part in the duathlon, and also would like something to offer the family.

There comes a point where the idea of jumping in a freezing lake loses its appeal and it’s then that your racing focus should switch to duathlon. Equally good at kicking off your season as they are at finishing it, run bike run events are great for improving your running and cycling pace.

There are several aims behind the Bicton XC Duathlon, however the main aim is to provide the Exeter area with a rare and unique multi-sport event. Have you seen our run route? It's a 3k loop incorporating much of the beauty the Bicton College estate has to offer. It's a privilege to have access to grounds not open to the general public, and another reason to enter this rare event in the South West!
