Exwick vs Chudleigh

What an absolute scorcher on Tuesday!! Skip won the toss and elected to bat first (wise decision).

Caitlin D and Caitlin S took one last gulp of water and made their way out under the blazing sun. Caitlin D launched a 6 (WOOO) and then a 4 in the first over, amazing. Lots of singles and some wides added to their score. The pair were unlucky on a couple of runouts (but they wouldn’t be the only ones). Up next Kate and Britt. Kate took a wicket and was beating herself up and then came back swinging with a 4. Again lots of singles and wides from the pair. Third up it was Cheryl and Kelly. Cheryl got a lovely 4 across the boundary early on and another in their final over, with 7 singles from Kelly (who kept going even though she said her legs felt like jelly). Finally it was Gabby and Stacey. Rough first couple of overs (and some questionable running) but they kept at it, Gabby adding a 4 in the last over.

After a much needed water (and Haribo break), Exwick took to the field. With some opening big hits from Chudleigh and Britt dropping an early catch as wickie, the team needed to get their act together. And thankfully, they did! Gabby kicked things off with a runout. Britt made a catch off the bat (trying to redeem herself) and Stacey caught one in the field. Not long after Britt made another catch. And Cheryl and Gabby both knocked the stumps off. Kate had a brilliant 2 overs with an economy of 2.0!

Final score: Exwick 105/6 and Chudleigh 95/6. Big thanks to Simon for umping and the Chudleigh crew for keeping us hydrated throughout the match.

Next match is 8 June vs Heathcoat at home. See you then!

Exwick vs Exeter CC

What a beautiful evening...there was a certain smell in the air. No, not the smell of a pub garden... the smell of wickets!
In true Exwick fashion, the Cpt lost the toss and were in to bat first.

It was clear from the outset that Exeter CC woke up and chose violence this morning... dodgy playing tactics and sledging were on the cards...

C Dawson and A Choudhury were the first pair up. With 7 boundaries in the first 4 overs and a generous sprinkling of singles. Beautifully shocking the fielders into thinking the boundary rope was their new BFF. The ladies had us off to a good start with 42-2 ....We'll just gloss over the home umpire missing his latest SpecSavers appointment.

Then, debutant D Bateman and K Le Maux stepped in. The sledging had stepped up a notch. But fear not, our fair maidens took it in their stride, showing the ladies on the other side of the rope how to use the feet they were born with! Some choice shots for the deep fielding squad.The pair added another 19 the hard way, with a shocking low amount of wides given. SpecSavers.

K Lamb and C Bennett were in for 3rd pair. By this point, the sledging was so bad that our Umpire stepped in and warned Exeter. But once again, our warrior women stood firm, adding another 20 with the bowlers finding their target on occasion. Maybe a combined hearing and sight test is needed... I hear Specsavers do both...

G Le Maux and S New were last pair in. Skip reinforced the idea that they should stay on the boundary with S New following suit. The duo had the field running the okie-cokie and added another 36 to the total, finishing with 117-3

Then Exwick Ladies took to the field.....

C Dawson caught a screamer of a catch off her first ball down the wicket! Opposition stunned (not to mention her team mates), struggled to make headway throughout her 4 overs, with a sublime economy of 3.5!

A Choudhury was second in to bowl and tried her best to flummox the batters. And if she couldn't flummox them, they would be sporting some B-E-A-utiful bruises in the morning! Sadly, there are no wickets this week but a valiant effort nonetheless!

K Le Maux took a couple of overs and kept the batters guessing where and when the ball would pitch.

C Bennett had 4 overs and in usual fashion, she (sometimes) aimed straight and true, restricting the batters to a few singles.

G Le Maux took her usual place of finishing up the pairs. She had had enough of the poor sportsmanship and aimed for the legs, dishing out a handful of bruises and collecting a couple of wickets.

That smell of wickets... turned out to be the smell of dropped catches!

After a shocking 7 dropped catches (a hat-trick by the skip and yes, fines will be paid) Exwick showed the opposition that nice guys don't always finish last! A tremendous effort from the team in the field, and a special shout out to the unsuspecting stand in wicky, S new!

Next up, Chudleigh.....

🏏Weekend Results!🏏

On Saturday, in a shade-free Cranbrook, on an interesting wicket, the 1st XI fell short in their chase after restricting Devon Medics to 156 all out. The standout performer and Player of the Match was Muhammad Umer Noor for his 8 overs, 2 maidens, 4 wickets for 15 runs.

After much debate about how to get out of Exeter around the Great West Run, Jez's Sunday XI picked up a win against a friendly Chumleigh side in no small part to a blistering 72 not out off 45 balls from new batting sensation Roohullah. In the blazing sun and awful traffic, all 22 present were players of the match for getting the game on and having a great afternoon of cricket.

Finally, in the late kick off on Sunday, the brand new Under 10s Hardball side travelled up an empty M5 to Kentisbere to play their first ever match against Bradninch and Kentisbere. Our 5 players were joined by 3 on loan from B&K, and every single one played their hearts out. Stand out moments were Matthews oh-so-almost one handed grab behind the stumps, Jesse's two wickets with his first two balls, Mia and Flo's brilliant running, Alex's batting, Jonah's dead straight bowling resulting in a cartwheeling stump, Harrison's two diving run outs and Austin getting a wicket against his own team and being begged not to! Exwick emerged victorious, and everyone can't wait for the next one! Special thanks must go to the Devon Cricket League discretionary fund and Exeter City Council for the ward grant, used to finance the kit required to start the first Exwick Junior hardball team.

Devon Cricket League Week 4 sees the 2nd XI have a bye and the 1st XI weave around County Show traffic to take on the Devon Medics & Cranbrook at Ingram Sports Pitches, Cranbrook.

In what will be sure to be a tough game, we have put out our best XI and roped in an umpire and a scorer! Last year resulted in only the first tie in all our collective memories so let's see how Captain Jack and his merry band can fare this time around!

Exwick Jokers lost to Tipton St John on a chilly Wednesday evening despite an important 21 run and 2 overs 1 wicket for 2 runs for new Joker George.

Exwick Women Softball beat Exeter in a close run game at a sunny County Ground on Thursday with Stacey being awarded player of the match for taking the gloves for the very first time with absolutely no notice and some great batting!
