There is something about watching water find its way that always makes me think about leadership.
Water rarely travels in a straight line.
It meets rocks.
It changes direction.
It slows.
It gathers momentum.
Sometimes it has to find an entirely different route.
And yet it keeps moving.
I think we forget this when we talk about leadership and success.
We convince ourselves that progress should be linear. That once we have chosen a direction, changing course somehow means we got it wrong.
It doesn’t.
Sometimes good leadership is knowing when to push forward.
Sometimes it is recognising the obstacle in front of you is not there to be conquered, but navigated.
And sometimes the wisest thing you can do is stop fighting the current long enough to ask yourself:
Where am I actually trying to go?
Coaching creates that space.
Not to give you all the answers, but to step away from the noise, look honestly at what is happening around you and within you, and decide what your next move needs to be.
Because changing direction isn’t failure.
Sometimes it is exactly how you find your way forward.
