I love a little play around in the studio between clients. Today I wanted to explore using the chair more and creating class friendly flows. I loved this reverse pike (tendon stretch prep) i to footwork.

What should I add to the flow next?

This or That?

Which exercise are you choosing…

The top variation is a dynamic front plank into a side plank with lots of leavers as the arms and legs move, making it a challenge exercise.

Equally the bottom Control Front exercises uses the front plank with leaves and the spring resistance in a different way to create challenges. This variation might not look impressive but it is equally as challenging for the inner core!

Maybe see them in class this week!

Listen up guys!

If you think Pilates is just for women, then we're here to tell you that it's for everyone.

Pilates is great for men who are wanting to improve their flexibility, stability and mobility, complementing other forms of exercise you might be more familiar with, such as weight sessions at the gym, running or cycling, and even manual tasks and general day-to-day movement.

It does this by working in a targeted way to stimulate those smaller muscles that support the joints and can be neglected in general training or skipped over when you forget to do your accessory training. The lighter resistance had been shown to also help the inner core training as your global muscles don't activate under the reduced load.

Have we convinced you to give it a go yet?

And don't forget, the method was developed, Joseph Pilates, who was a Boxer, gymnast and health nut, oh and a man too!

4 point kneeling on the box can feel unstable, leaving you feeling out of control and unsure what you’re supposed to be working on.

In our studio before popping you on the box, we get the tower out with the long springs. Here the bench is stable and less high, removing the fear of falling and the wobbly carriage. The long springs provide the resistance that you would get with the cable and loops on the reformer, the springs also add their own little wobble to the movement. Once you feel confident here we can progress you to the reformer with the long box.

4 point kneeling on the bench with long springs still targets your Glutes, Hamstrings and Obliques muscles in the same way 4 point kneeling on the box will do.

What exercise do you want to see next on the Tower transferred from the Reformer?
