JUST BECAUSE IT SAYS PROTEIN, IT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S HEALTHY!!
High protein content can be beneficial for certain individuals, but it's essential to consider the overall nutritional profile of a product. Here are some reasons why it's important to scrutinize food labels beyond just the protein content:
Calorie Content: A food item might be high in protein but also high in calories, which can be a concern for those trying to manage their weight. The above image shows a mere 100g snack for just shy of 500 calories!
Nutrient Density: Assessing the overall nutrient density of a food item is crucial. Opt for foods that not only provide protein but also offer a range of vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients.
Portion Sizes: As I eluded to earlier, pay attention to serving sizes! Sometimes a product may seem healthy until you realize the serving size is much smaller than what you would typically eat.
Health Claims: Be cautious of health claims on packaging. Just because a product claims to be "high in protein" or "low fat" doesn't necessarily mean it's a healthy choice. Always check the full nutritional information!
Protein is an essential nutrient yes! But it's important to look at the bigger picture by considering other nutritional aspects of a food product. Don't be fooled by the marketing machine, there's a lot of BS out there as companies simply want to sell you their new, shiny products.
