Ventus under 15s

What a fantastic bunch of lads we have playing for us. We've had a great weekend at The Blackpool Youth Tournament. Some great performances, some dodgy ones and some questionable refereeing but these boys make us so proud every time we watch them play. They are a credit to themselves, their parents and the club. Not forgetting the boys that couldn't play this weekend due to injury and various reasons- Adam, who came to watch on Saturday, Ben, Lewis H, Alfie and Callum- they were all missed.
Massive thanks to the parents, who are always there to support the boys- we couldn't do it without you!

Fantastic team performance from the boys today in unpleasant conditions. Every player gave their all in a game where we were dominant from the first kick. Mason started off the scoring with a first time strike on his right foot. This set us up with the right mindset to go and get more and more chances. Tom was unlucky and hit the bar not long after. Craig hit home before half time with a cheeky toe poke past the onrushing keeper.
HT 2-0

We came out after half time raring to go. Adam added to the score sheet with a fantastic strike well outside the box for his first goal of the season. Craig was on scoring form again and bagged himself a second. We kept our shape and discipline to ensure that we kept Guiseley at bay and stopped them creating chances. Our defence and midfield worked really well to ensure that Lucas had little work to do during the game. To finish the game off, Craig got his hatrick with a well worked goal, which he chased down all the way into the net to make sure of our 5th.

Ventus vs Sutton Rascals

We came out today having regrouped after last week’s defeat and needing a win to boost the team. We started quickly and pressed straight away with Craig unselfishly laying a pass off to Tom to put us 1-0 up in the first 5 minutes. 5 minutes after that, Craig was through on goal and headed home for our second. Craig was on great form today and worked his chance well for his second and Ventus’ third. The ball was well worked through the middle with Ethan and Lewis both contributing to get the ball to Tom, who pounced for his second of the day with a good finish. At 4-0 up we were confident and having the majority of the possession- any pressing that Sutton managed was quickly stopped by Fin (Finaldo), Nat, Christy and Joe, who were a force to be reckoned with in the first half. Once again, Craig broke through on the left after Sam had battled in the centre to win the ball initially and then Craig used his skills to weave the ball around the defenders and put the ball past the keeper to bag his hattrick. Tom made sure that he also bagged a hattrick with another calm finish to take our tally up to 6. Two minutes after Tom scored his 3rd, Ethan had a lovely strike on goal which bent at the last second and went centimetres wide. We finished the half with another class goal from Craig to take his tally to 4.

Sutton caught us off guard in the first minute of the second half and managed to force a way through to get an early goal. After that, we switched back on and composed ourselves again and it was business as usual. Mason was next to take his chance. He turned their defender easily by dropping his shoulder and finishing confidently for his first of the match. Alfie, after coming off the bench, struck home to take our score to 9-1. Sutton began to press and found their way into the box where Sam was unlucky to concede a penalty as he had been on top form for the entire game. Their player stepped up to face a confident Lucas. He struck and Lucas saved the penalty and then saved the rebound. The game was finished off with another well worked chance and a great strike from Mason.

Oakworth 4-2 Ventus

First defeat of the season today as we came up against a really strong Oakworth team. The game was at stalemate for 30 minutes with both teams having chances. Oakworth took the lead and became more confident in possession. Lucas made some great saves to keep the deficit to just 1. Sam was fantastic at the back at keeping their tricky attack at bay. Just before half time, Craig managed to sneak in around the back of a defender and put the ball straight in to level it up.
HT 1-1
The second half started off with a lively attack from Ventus which resulted in a good save by the keeper to keep the score level. Oakworth took the lead again with a lovely free kick. Ventus battled back again and a sweet strike from Craig took it back to evens at 2-2. The Oakworth team showed their strength in midfield to carve out opportunities to score and managed to put 2 more of those away to take it to 4-2. We had a couple more chances saved late on. We go again next week! 🤍🖤⚽️

Ventus U15 vs Keighley Shamrocks

Due to the heavy rain, we decided to move our game onto astroturf at Goals so that we didn’t have to postpone as our pitch was holding a lot of water. The pitch was unfamiliar to both teams so we lost our home advantage. This didn’t affect the boys at all as we came out strongly straight away and with a peach of a header, Nat hit the target for his first goal of the season to put us 1-0 up after about 3 minutes of play. We carried on pressing and had shots from Mason and Tom saved early on. Tom had a header cleared off the line, which was very close to going in. Ethan’s hard work paid off with a lovely strike to take us to 2-0 up. Joe took a knock and was replaced by Sam late on in the second half. The game was firmly in our possession for the rest of the half, with some good defending from Fin and Alfie to keep chances from reaching Lucas.

The second half saw Ventus use some more substitutions and one of those, Craig, fired home to take us to 3-0 a few minutes after the restart. We carried on pressing until another chance fell to Ethan, who caught it sweetly and hit the bar. The rebound fell nicely for Kenzie who struck for his first goal of the season. Our next goal came from a fantastic ball into the box from Lewis, which was put into the net by a Keighley player. Lewis continued to be a presence all over the pitch and worked well with Craig to carve out another chance. Craig hit the target again to make it 6 for Ventus. Quickly after this, Ethan deservedly got his second after working hard to get into space in a very crowded box. Mason battled and had several near misses towards the end of the match- he absolutely deserved a goal for his work in the second half but hit the post and the bar and bent one centimetres wide. Craig headed the ball home for our 8th and his hattrick and finally finished the game off with his 4th to make it 9 for Ventus. All in all a great game with all 16 of our players getting a run out today including our new signing, Ben who made his debut.
