One does not feel oneself to be an especially thin-skinned chap. Indeed, when at her leisure, there is nothing the good Mrs Williams enjoys more than finding fault with her lesser half. One builds character and resilience from this sort of thing, much as oak is strengthened by the prevailing wind.

A hearty round of applause for this week’s Modbury CC award winners.

Player of the Day goes to Callum “The Viking” Lee-Oldfield, whose efforts in the middle were exactly the sort of stout-hearted business the occasion demanded.

Dish of the Day goes to Paul Romney’s sausage rolls, which strode confidently to the crease and were, by all accounts, dispatched with considerable enthusiasm.

Heroics on the field, heroics at the tea table. Just as village cricket intended.

Modbury CC are back at Fawns Close this Sunday as we welcome Ugborough CC for a 2pm start.

The forecast is for cricket, conversation, and possibly the sort of tea table that causes people to reconsider the meaning of lunch.

Congratulations to Daniel Clayton, our Player of the Day against Harberton CC.

In fading light, with wickets falling and the chase becoming a rather uphill business, Dan dug in admirably and brought some much-needed calm to proceedings.

A determined innings, a steady head, and a thoroughly deserved nod. 🏏

A damp and disreputable sky may have robbed us of cricket this afternoon, but it made no impression whatsoever on the catering department.

Today’s noble offerings included:

Sticky Wicket Rocky Road
Curried Pastries
Anzac Biscuits
Couscous Salad

A fine spread, a washed-out fixture, and several dishes that deserved better than meteorological interference.
