Our second u17s fixture of the season in a beautiful setting of Whiteley Village, a truly lovely area of Surrey. However, despite the emerald green front lawns of the mansions leading up to the ground, the playing area of Whiteley Village was parched and the grass like straw under the intense summer 2026 sun. So much so, we were moved to the Astro pitch.
Captain Noah Seager won the toss and chose to bat. From the start, Sarvesh Govindarajan seized the initiative. In what must be a Ewell record, Sarvesh reached the compulsory retirement of 50 runs in just 18 balls and before 5 overs of play were complete. However, the rest of Ewellโs wickets fell at regular intervals, forcing Sarvesh to come back in at the end before he was bowled for a glorious 55 off 23 balls which included 5 fours and 5 sixes. This is Sarveshโs second ยฝ century in our 2 matches played so far. Despite Sarveshโs efforts, Ewell fell to 116 all out with still 3.2 overs left out on the field.
Any batting disappointments were soon put in the past. A magnificent bowling and fielding performance saw us on top of the game. Good opening overs from Arman Ahmad and Ryan Carlin saw 11 straight dot balls at the beginning of the innings, before the Whiteley opening bat decided to hit out. Ryan bowled 9 dot balls from 12 in his opening spell. Luke Jacobs came on to bowl and bowled 4 straight overs taking 2 wickets for 9 runs, including the wicket of the attacking opener, which moved the winning odds into Ewellโs direction. Noah and Rickh Chatterjee also bowled very impressive spells, both taking a wicket before Dwij Patel took a wicket with the last ball of the match, with a smart stumping from Sarvesh. Catches from Luke, Barnaby MacLeod and Dwij were highlights in a very good fielding display, stopping singles and restricting twos into ones. The miserly bowling and fielding saw Whiteley Village close on 91 for 5 off their 20 overs - Ewell winning by 25 runs to remain top of the division.
