“The Alex Way is more than just sporting results”
Last week at our Managers’ Meeting, we talked about “The Alex Way.”
Not as a slogan. Not as something to stick on a poster.
But as something we want people to recognise in the way our players, coaches and teams behave.
And sometimes, the best way to explain it is simply to show it.
This week, the welfare lead from one of our newest teams, the U12 Tigers, shared a few moments with their players.
A boy noticing an old teammate sitting alone and upset at school — and choosing to sit with him.
Another putting an arm around a friend who hadn’t been selected for the school team.
And during a cricket match, a player seeing his football teammate struggling after making a mistake — despite being on the opposing cricket team — and walking over to give him a hug.
Different schools. Different sports. Different friendship groups.
Same instinct. Look after each other.
And THAT is The Alex Way.
It doesn’t matter what sport you’re playing, what team you’re representing, how old you are, where you come from, what you believe or which friendship group you belong to.
Because The Alex Way isn’t really about football.
It’s about recognising that all of us have the ability to make somebody else feel supported, included and valued.
Of course we want to win football matches. We’re a football club. Winning matters.
But winning comes in different forms.
And if the young people who eventually leave Alexandra United do so understanding that sometimes the most important thing they can do is notice somebody struggling and put an arm around their shoulder…
I’ll take that over a 6–0 win any day of the week.
And twice on Sundays.
🔴⚫ The Alex Way.
Respect. Responsibility. Sportsmanship.
Sometimes the biggest victories don’t appear on the results page.
