Joseph Pilates was interned in the first World War, during this time Pilates taught his exercises to fellow internees.
Here is the really interesting bit - it is widely reported not a single person in his camp died of the Spanish flu! Even though the influenza pandemic from 1918-1920 clamied 3 times more lives than the War itself!
