Good to see thought provoking ‘The Story’ at the National Theatre with my wonderful friend Dr Karen Treisman.

The play had some heavy themes around race and violence but also stimulating & inspiring.

Gorgeous to spend time talking, thinking & connecting together 🧡

My bright, curious neurodiverse son asked me tonight what the word irony meant.

I couldn’t attend to his question without reverting back to my adolescent anthem by the wonderful Alanis Morissette Morissette

I was lucky enough to go to her London gig this summer with the gorgeous Dr Karen Treisman where we got to re-live shiny aspects of youth, we both had a strong emotional response.

In answer to his question, I quoted lines from her song, before long he was spilling examples of his own…’it’s like finally being on time for school when it’s the summer holidays’💛. He loves words, he loves soaking up information and now, he loves the concept of irony.

Isn’t it ironic…

I’ve been thinking about the importance of brain breaks…

Being a therapist, I do mental gymnastics for a job. My clients, often coping with pain, pressures, adversity, shock, trauma, grief and much more are usually busy processing their angst which can be utterly exhausting.
Only recently, I spoke of the importance of the brain having chance to ‘idle’ or go on ‘standby’ in the midst of difficult times. Equally, for me to be my best therapist self, I need those ‘off duty’, ‘out of office’ cognitive wind-downs, to gaze at a tv screen or lift something weighty at the gym.
