*** MATCH REPORT – Pitcher brings up 50 as Westbourne take local derby spoils***

Westbourne CC 214/7 bt Emsworth CC 94ao by 120 runs.

The weekend brought in a new month, but no change to the weather as Westbourne played host to local neighbours Emsworth CC on another hot and sunny afternoon. Several players in the fixture have represented both clubs over the 2026 season, and with bragging rights on the line Westbourne won the toss and elected to bat first, Jobin Charapparambil opening the innings with Emsworth 1’s regular Jacob Murray.

Opening the bowling was Emsworth’s leading wicket taker for 2026, George Falcon-Paterson, and it was not long before the first wicket fell, Falcon-Paterson claiming 2 scalps in his first 3 overs, firstly removing Jobin Charapparambil (5), followed quickly by Rithin Panicker (1) and the score 16/2. Luke Williams joined Murray in the middle, and the pair stabilised the innings and began to move the scoreboard forwards, bringing up a 50 partnership in 8 overs, and both looking well set to register big scores. The drinks break gave Emsworth a chance to re-group, and it did the trick as Williams was dismissed shortly afterwards to break the partnership on 71, and the overall score 87/3. Murray remained well set, but was finally dismissed for a composed 36, Luke Agnew combining with brother Ryan, who took a sharp catch at Mid-Wicket and the innings was poised at 106/4.

Emsworth could not capitalise, with Tom Pitcher and Dean Kehagias combining in a partnership of 93, including Pitcher bringing up a first 50 in WCC colours to take the score to 200. Pitcher was dismissed shortly afterwards, caught in the deep by Falcon-Paterson for 54, and Kehagias soon followed, castled trying to go big to fall 1 short of a half-century of his own. Emsworth did pick up one further late wicket, Vaughan Weedon being run out by Luke Agnew for 2, but as Westbourne declared at the tea break they were in a strong position, closing the innings on 204/7.

In Reply, Emsworth struggled to get a partnership going, with Westbourne openers Dean Kehagias (2/28) and Rithin Panicker (3/20) dismantling the top order to leave Emsworth 50/5. Ryan Agnew offered resistance and played some eye-catching shots to keep the score moving, but when he fell for 27 the hopes of an Emsworth victory seemed slim. Luke Agnew and George Falcon-Paterson showed some attacking flair with a couple of big shots clearing the boundary, but the wickets continued to tumble, Tom Broughton and Ian Gwenlan taking 2 apiece, before Sibin Charapparambil claimed the final wicket to dismiss Emsworth for 94, Westbourne taking the victory by 120 runs.
