First Win for Our Newly Formed Team! 🎉
Yesterday we travelled to Bottisham Village College for a pre-season friendly against Soham Town Reserves Women, and came away with a fantastic 5-1 victory — our first win since reforming! 👏⚽
The game started at a fast pace, with both teams battling to gain control of possession. It was Isleham who took the lead in the 12th minute. Some excellent hold-up play from Sammy allowed her to lay the ball off to Lauren, who then found Evie inside the box. Evie made no mistake, confidently finishing to give us a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, our camera missed the goal! 🫣
Both teams created opportunities as the half progressed, but we held firm and went into the break with our narrow advantage intact.
Soham started the second half strongly, forcing a good save from Megan before also hitting the crossbar as they increased the pressure.
However, in the 55th minute, Isleham doubled their lead. Evie did brilliantly to win a corner and then delivered a dangerous ball into the box. It eventually found its way to the back post, where some excellent movement from Lauren created the space she needed to finish low into the net.
The goal gave us a real boost of confidence, and we immediately began applying more pressure. Trina won the ball around the halfway line before finding Vicky, who took on two players and delivered a fantastic cross towards the near post. Lauren got the slightest of touches to steer the ball past the keeper and make it 3-0.
Just eight minutes later, we added another. Lauren took a quick throw from halfway towards Trina, who turned her marker superbly. The ball then found Evie, who drove at the Soham defence before unleashing a fantastic strike from around 23 yards. The effort clipped the underside of the crossbar and into the net, giving Isleham a 4-0 lead. 🚀
In the 68th minute, we extended our advantage once again. Trina won possession in midfield before the ball broke to Sammy, who turned well and played it out to Jen. Jen then produced a sublime outside-of-the-foot pass to find Lauren in behind the Soham defence. Lauren kept her composure and calmly finished to complete her hat-trick and make it 5-0. ⚽⚽⚽
To their credit, Soham continued to push and were rewarded in the 80th minute when a ball into the box was controlled and volleyed into the net.
That proved to be the final goal of the game, securing a 5-1 victory and our first win since reforming the team! 🎉
We are incredibly proud of all the girls. They have worked extremely hard in training, and to respond in this way after the heavy defeat to Linton shows the character and determination within this group.
A special mention to Lauren for her hat-trick, but this was a fantastic team performance from start to finish. 💪
