Isleham United Ladies 1-2 Pymoor
Just 10 weeks after beginning this exciting journey, and following only eight training sessions together, Isleham United Ladies took to the pitch for the club’s first fixture against Pymoor.
After a nervous opening 30 minutes, the team settled well and began to show their potential, playing some impressive football and growing in confidence.
Isleham came close to taking the lead before half-time when Lauren’s pressure caused confusion between the Pymoor defender and goalkeeper. Strong appeals for a handball and penalty were waved away, and the sides went into the break level at 0-0.
The second half continued in a similar fashion, with Isleham enjoying good spells of possession and creating promising opportunities. The quality of the football improved throughout, but the breakthrough remained elusive.
With around 20 minutes remaining, Pymoor took the lead. Emily made an excellent save, but the rebound fell kindly to their winger, who finished well.
The girls responded positively and continued to push forward. Evie’s corners caused problems all afternoon, but Pymoor doubled their advantage from a set piece, finishing at the back post.
To their credit, Isleham never gave up. Their persistence was rewarded with the final kick of the game when another excellent corner from Evie found Emily-Sheree at the back post, and she finished confidently to score the team’s first goal.
Although the result did not go Isleham’s way, everyone involved should be immensely proud of what has been achieved in such a short time. Ten weeks ago, fielding a team was only an ambition; now, a committed group of players has come together to proudly represent Isleham United.
This is only the beginning, and there are plenty of exciting times ahead.
We are still looking for new players to join the team, so if you’re interested in becoming part of this exciting journey, please get in touch.
Finally, a big thank you to the Isleham United Men’s Team for allowing us to borrow their kit for the occasion, with our new kit having only recently been ordered.
Player of the match for Isleham:
Adele, for a calm and composed performance at the centre of our defence. 👏🏻
