So many women are taught to train the exact same way every single week, without ever being told that our bodies naturally fluctuate throughout the month. Your cycle can massively impact your energy, strength, recovery, motivation, confidence and overall performance in the gym — and understanding this can completely change the way you train and feel about yourself.
There are phases where you may feel strong, energised and capable of pushing harder, recovering quicker and lifting heavier. Then there are other phases where your body may feel more tired, emotional, bloated, weaker or simply “off”. This does NOT mean you are lazy, unfit or failing — it means your body is responding exactly how a healthy female body is designed to.
Around ovulation many women often feel stronger and more capable of high intensity training, whereas during the luteal phase and around your period you may notice lower energy, reduced strength, cravings, poorer recovery and less motivation. Training does not need to stop, and it does not need to dramatically change, but learning to work WITH your body instead of against it can make such a difference.
That being said, consistency still matters. Some weeks will naturally feel harder than others, but showing up for yourself anyway is where progress is built. Not every session will be your strongest, but maintaining routine and doing what you can during the harder weeks is just as important.
This is exactly why I’m so passionate about helping women better understand their bodies. As a personal trainer, I’m here to support you through every phase — helping you adapt when needed, push when it’s appropriate and stay consistent whilst building confidence, strength and a healthier relationship with training
