West Cumbria Mountaineering Club

West Cumbria Mountaineering Club For mountain experiences locally and further afield. Welcome to WCMC! You can however, hire gear if you need to. Occasionally meets take place further afield.

Most people join us because they want to be a part of a community of like-minded people who love the outdoors. So whether you’re new to the area, wanting to meet new people, looking to start a new hobby or just wanting to get cracking on with folk, the club would love to hear from you. Members are able to to make regular use of the wall at Egremont, on a Wednesday evening from 7-9pm from September

to March. You take your own risks at the wall, so if climbing is a new activity for you, you might want to do a short course at Kendal or Keswick first. Another fine reason to join is to take the opportunity to join the club on one of the meets between March and November. Scotland is the usual destination, except for the AGM which is always held in the Lakes. Coming on a meet for the first time, especially if you’re by yourself, can be quite scary. You’re always welcome to bring a non-member friend along and rest assured, everyone’s very friendly to newcomers. If you’re looking for things to do, it’s easy to find people to tag along with. However you hope to benefit, there’s a wealth of experience in the WCMC gained from being out and about on the fells and while safety is your personal responsibility, you are more likely to have safer, more enjoyable trips with the club as opposed to heading out alone.
