🎾 Do you know your tiebreak rules?
We’ve had a few questions from members recently, so here’s a quick refresher!
What is a tiebreak?
A tiebreak is played when a set reaches 6-6. A 10-point championship tiebreak can also replace a third set — first to 10 wins (with a 2-point lead)!
Serving order
The player whose turn it is serves 1 point from the deuce (right) side. Their opponent then serves the next 2 points from the advantage (left) side. After that, players alternate every 2 points.
Changing ends
Players swap sides every time the combined score reaches a multiple of 6 (e.g. 3-3, 4-2, 6-0). Don’t forget!
Winning the tiebreak
You must win by 2 clear points. If it reaches 6-6, play continues until someone leads by 2 — 8-6, 9-7, and so on.
Starting the next set
The set ends at 7-6, so both players switch ends to begin the next set. The player who served first in the tiebreak will receive serve in the next set’s opening game.
