*UPDATE* Over the next month we will be refining and changing the format of this class to suit the community. As such we have changed the price and timing of the class to reflect our setup! Now 1 hour for £8 full, or £5 consession! Additionally we will focus on more morris dancing! Hope to see you there!

And we are off! Thanks so much to the five people who came to our first ever class - you smashed (or should I say clashed) it tonight! We started looking at this month’s theme of the “travelling step” to be used at ceilidhs and its versatility and attempted the morris (1,2 - 123) travelling step too! Then a focus on couple dances (Gay Gordon’s, Swedish masquerade, St Bernard’s Waltz). However a highlight was the team starting to master the Brimfield Morris Stick dance! Amazing work and hope to see you again on the mat soon! Thanks to United Krav Maga Organisation Edinburgh for their support!

The Phoenix Reel Academy is now recruiting for a Ceilidh Morris Demonstration Team (named the Phoenix Reel Ceilidh Morris)! An intertwining of ceilidh and morris - with sticks and hankerchiefs at the ready!

About your instructor Danni Phoenix-Kane:

With over 15 years immersed in the ceilidh scene, she brings both depth and spark to every dance floor she steps onto. A familiar presence at ceilidhs across Edinburgh, she’s often spotted adding her own signature twist by dancing in tap shoes, weaving crisp, percussive rhythms into traditional steps. For her, ceilidh is not a museum piece but a living, breathing celebration, where old and new can intertwine to keep the joy of the tradition vibrant and alive.

Her roots run deep in the folk world. Raised in Devon, she grew up surrounded by song and morris dancing, spending her early years in an acappella folk choir that shaped her musical instincts and love of communal performance.

Danni also has years of other instructing experience, with the most current being a Krav Maga Instructor for United Krav Maga Edinburgh.

Through the academy, Danni’s mission is to create a lively, welcoming space where dancers can build strong foundations and refine essential techniques. By blending clear guidance with an infectious sense of fun, she aims to help participants not only develop their skills but also step fully into the exuberant spirit of ceilidh and morris dancing, where confidence grows and joy takes centre stage!
