Happy 10th birthday St Cyrus Solos Running Club!! 🎂💕😀🎉

40 club members past and present enjoyed recreating the first run from 16th June 2016 followed by cake, drinks and the presentation of the first ‘Outstanding runner of the decade’
to one of the club’s fantastic run leads- Iain Campbell. 🏆

What’s the story behind the St Cyrus Solos?

Set in a rural Aberdeenshire village lies the stunning St Cyrus Beach, the many undulating farms and hills and the St Cyrus Solos Running Club which celebrates its 10 year anniversary in 2026.

Aged 16 to over 60s - we are a group of about 80 runners with a range of backgrounds and abilities and meet twice a week at the local village hall before heading into the countryside hills - - being the club motto - or we descend the cliff paths to run on the stunning beach.

What started as a poster in the local village pub in 2016 - 'Anyone fancy meeting up for a run' - local resident Simon Chalmers asked. He turned up at the proposed time and place....noone came....his workmates called him 'SOLO' - poster went up again but this time a few inquisitive residents decided to join him.

The name stuck and the St Cyrus Solos was born. The club now hosts its own annual - hilly and challenging 10km event every June - this year it's 21st June - welcoming 350 runners and a community spirit like no other! The club donates its profits to the local schools and playparks and also owns and maintains two defibrillators and recently named three park benches in the new community space.

We host an annual Christmas Dinner and awards night, an AGM and Quiz, we 'takeover' local parkruns in Montrose and Stonehaven, have many social nights out and we are hosting an Anniversary ceilidh in November 2026.

We ran to our newly planted tree near the church - planted in honour of a decade of friendships, miles and memories 😀💕

Anyone else still celebrating?! 😀🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🎉⚽️

We had an amazing hat-trick of fabulous runners who scored some great times up at Skye Half Marathon 😎 No penalties in Raymond’s way as he netted a PB! 🎉

Rach and Mhairi gave it their best John McGinn and finished well! 😀

Susan was first female at Lady Mary’s Walk parkrun! We doubt any walking took place! 🎉

The countdown is on for our 10km event St Cyrus 10km next Sunday! Email instructions are with our Referee Mark and ready to be sent to the 350 team members.

The celebrations continue this week with our 10th birthday party on Tuesday night!

PBs for Archie and Mollie with Mollie being crowned top U20 female! 💕🎉

A group of Solos - Sarah, Rach, Adrian, Carol, Daisy and Nicola enjoyed their trip to Ury Parkrun in Inverurie- Nicola was first female 🎉💕

This week was our June Handicap 5km - won by Raymond and Nicola! 🎉

Also another Solos on Tour to Marykirk, Montrose 😀

Two weeks today - it’s our St Cyrus 10km and we can’t wait to welcome all the runners and their families and friends 😀😎
