DANGERS OF SOCIAL MEDIA TRAINING - YOU COULD BE SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR FAILURE
My client Ben showing some great technical improvements with the and highlighting the importance of having your own coach.
I'd just want to elaborate on one thing I said in the video because it's important: "just because you can feel it working, doesn't mean you're doing it right"! Ben WAS feeling like he was having a great bicep/shoulder/core workout. What Ben WASN'T doing was performing the exercise using his entire body as one fluid structure, engaging his core or elevating his shoulders.
Now Ben has been training for many years and is very good at following exercise instruction, however by following instructions from a YouTube coach, it was actually exacerbating some of the posture and movement issues that Ben and I have been working on.
So if you follow social media channels and like to copy exercises/routines from online sources, just remember:
- These coaches aren't providing you with feedback and technique correction, so you can't be sure you're doing it right.
- Just because the content providers look fit/ripped etc does not mean they are a good or knowledgeable coach.
- Without knowing you and your goals, there's no way these training programs will be 100% effectively tailored towards you as an individual.
If you have any questions about anything mentioned above, or would like to experience the effectiveness of having your own coach, send me a DM or email [email protected].
