One thing I really enjoy about my job, is responding to the differing needs of my clients.

Some flourish with structure whilst some need more flexibility, some bodies adapt to heavy lifting nicely whilst others pick up injuries along the way, there is no one-size fits all Athena programme.

Everyone is perfectly unique and treated as such 😌🙏✨





I’m taking on new clients throughout the rest of April, with a little pause in May. If you’ve been wondering whether to get in touch, here’s your prompt! 😃💪🏻

Back with more bench advice..

Shoulder injury stunting your bench press gains? You may need to hear this.

- Linear progression may need to take a backseat for a minute ✋🏻

- Check your data (are you benching as consistently as you think you are?) 📊

- Can you improve on your benching skill and/or can you add more frequency?

Think big picture.

➡️This advice can work just as well for you if you’ve hit a wall with your bench gains.

Are there times where people just aren’t benching heavy enough? Sure, but in my experience frequency is often the first place you’ll find a path to progression.

Hey everyone, I’m Kimberley and I help people (re)connect to their physical and mental strength through lifting!

I’m an ex-competitive powerlifter and I have introduced dozens of new lifters to the sport of powerlifting (some of whom reaching British level and gaining records!)

I’ve also ran several Athena mock meets and have held powerlifting workshops 💪🏻

The Athena community is centred around support, positivity and a belief that strength takes many forms.

My coaching style is client-centred, and when we choose to work together, it becomes a collaboration.

I place a big focus on creating a coaching environment that promotes safety, by using a private gym facility and through our communications

My teaching methodology is a mixture of foundational strength training combined with mindfulness; I believe lifting act as a somatic practice (read my Substack article)

I’m mental health and trauma-informed, and I work with many individuals who identify as neurodivergent (& do so myself)

Together we’ll work on getting the most out of your gym sessions. You’ll learn techniques to help keep you present, grounded, and connected 🙏🏻

I have a special interest in working with people who experience: 

- Lifting with hyper-mobility
- Injury prevention/recovery
- Gym anxiety

For well-behaved pups & pet-parents, I can provide dog-friendly PT sessions (on request) 🐾

A huge shout to our Mandy who is featured in her very own article in .uk ! Swipe to see her headline 💃

Mandy has gained immense purpose and joy not just by advocating for fellow late diagnosed Autistic women and individuals, but to also promote the benefits of strength training and powerlifting for women over 50 (see her amazing podcast )

Just a little note from my new Substack.. ☺️ (link in bio!)

It’s pretty self explanatory really, most of the women I coach notice profound changes in their ability to assert themselves, voice their opinions and feel confident enough to take up space 👽

Neuroscience confirms that we can rewire the brain through altering the actions we take and there’s literature in the trauma-sphere that echoes it too!

Lifting changes the way we view ourselves 🪞. And this change has been a long time coming for many of us ♥️

I mention women in the post above to keep the post snappy, but I include the transgender and non-binary community in this too - people that can often identify with coming from a place of suppression of emotion and personhood.

Tapping into your ‘fight response’ 💪🏻 does not come naturally to many of us, but is still available to all of us no matter how underdeveloped.

Lifting is a healthy way of exploring this, and reclaiming parts of yourself 🫂

Today marks the 8th birthday of ATHENA 🥳🫶🏻

✨8 years of helping incredible clients that I also get to call friends

✨8 years of coaching lifters to the platform

✨8 years of personal growth and developing as a leader
.And yet, it still only feels like the beginning 😌🙏🏻

Thank you to everyone who has ever been involved through working with me, attending Athena Meets, or simply by being in my corner (there is just too many of you to tag!) - none of this could have been possible without you 🥹🥹

These pivotal moments are the ones I cherish most. Because they are what it’s all about ♥️

Mandy did incredibly well, achieving 8/9 successful lifts, extending her Scottish Bench Record from 47.5kg to 50kg in the M2 47kg class (at 45.8kg bodyweight) & taking home 🥇

All of this at her FIRST ever British, and only her 3rd ever competition 🤯

Mandy, as ever, thank you for choosing me to guide you on this journey. It’s such a joy to watch you grow in confidence and ability 🩷
