Balgreen Croquet and Bowling Club

Balgreen hosted the Appleton Trophy for the first time last weekend. This is an annual fixture between the SCA (Scottish Croquet Association) and the CAI (Croquet Association of Ireland) that started in 1987. This time the SCA won 15-9!
Five of the SCA players are members at Balgreen with Rosemary Saunders Robertson being the only player to win 5/5 games.

Chris Martin and Ian Price won the Alternate Stroke Doubles competition, winning all their matches! Seven pairs competed on a lovely day, much better than forecast!

Ceilidh dancing at the end of the Scottish evening was a bit chaotic at times but great fun! We then attempted some Flamenco dancing …!!

What a weekend - dry weather, competitive croquet and a lot of camaraderie! Balgreen won, so will be going to the European GC club league championship final in Carrickmines in October!

This afternoon Balgreen welcomed Compton croquet club (Eastbourne) and Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri (Cadiz) for the first championship heat of the GC European club league of 2026!

Balgreen took part in the European GC Clubs League grand final this weekend and were runners up (to Roehampton)!
A brilliant team performance from Stefan Colling, Rosemary Saunders Robertson, Alastair Burn-Murdoch and Mark Shanks (Kathy Brown played in the heat).
