Many thanks to all those racing with Blast Running, Edinburgh in the Inverleith Sundowner 5K Series. They have raised over £330 to put towards renewing the playpark.
Now we just need some decisions from Edinburgh Council so that more fund raising can begin.

Thank you again, much appreciated

This may be a duplicate post. I wanted to thank all those who have bought tickets in the Edinburgh Community Lottery and chosed Friends of Inverleith Park as the charity to support. So far supporters have only won extra tickets for subsequent draws but it is a really good way to support the park. Up to date we have raised £150 and have put this in the fund for upgrading the playpark. It would be great if we had more supporters and could raise more funds in this way. And who knows you might also win a prize!

If you are still looking for one of our beautiful calendars, there are still a few available in The Write Stuff ( Raeburn Place) or Borthwicks ( opposite Flora Stevenson School). Makes a great diary.

I found a Yale type key made by Lock & Key company in the Sundial garden today 27th July. I'll hang on to it for a couple of week to see if it is claimed but after that I'll have to bin it - we don't have storage facilities to keep lost property, sorry

Dear fellow Friends.
The Edinburgh's project* is looking for volunteers to do observation studies in 5 parks in early May, including Inverleith. One hour of your time outdoors could help improve a local park! Full details are at https://www.thrivinggreenspaces.scot/project/behaviour-observation-studies-edinburgh%E2%80%99s-parks?documentId=26&categoryId=1%3E …& you can volunteer here https://bit.ly/behaviourobservationvolunteer…

The parks being looked at are:

Saughton Park
West Pilton Park
Inverleith Link
Leith Links
Inch Park.

Basically it involves surveying how people use the park, with an app you download to a smartphone. Thriving Greenspaces can get paper versions of the survey to people who prefer that.

This kind of survey helped build the case for Heritage Lottery Fund and others to finance the Saughton Park renovation. The information from surveys could help make the case for external funding for the other parks, which masterplans have been developed for under the Thriving Greenspaces project.

*Edinburgh's Thriving Greenspaces is a Heritage Lottery Fund project partnership including the City Council, Edinburgh Green Spaces Forum (of Friends' Groups), Edinburgh and Lothian Greenspace Trust, greenspace scotland, the Scottish Wildlife Trust and the University of Edinburgh.

Signup form to take part in behaviour observation study in Edinburgh's urban parks.

Do you have experience in applying for grants? Could you help deliver flyers to local houses? Could you help put up posters in shop windows and public buildings? The Friends of Inverleith Park needs more volunteers to help with its project to raise funds for a new playground. If you are able to help, please email Selena via [email protected]. Thanks!

This is a picture of the bench we donated for our parents. It sat at the top of the pond next to the green flag. Unfortunately it seems to have been badly vandalised and has had to be removed. We have been told it had too many rotted joints, but this was a bench that had been maintained, I know it had twice been taken in for refurbishment and therefore either it was not maintained properly or its removal was the result of vandalism rather than rot. We have been informed ( after our enquiries - no-one informed us of the removal, I had to find out where it had gone ) that in order to replace it with a metal one, it will cost us £2160. It seems rather unfair that we should have to pay for the results of vandalism. The council should be insured against this or if they provide their own insurance, should, in my opinion replace it free of charge or with a small charge for the new plaque which has to be in a different metal.
