Over the 15 years of Fencing Fun's existence, thousands and thousands of children and young people have come through our doors. Some just passing through, others stopping, staying for a while and moving on to pastures new and others making fencing their life's work. But no matter how short their journey with us, ALL have learnt something with us...whether that's simply the joy and opportunity to try an Olympic sport, or learning that they CAN achieve whatever they put their minds to.

So this post is a call out for all parents (or people now grown who enjoyed time with us as youngsters) who have seen how Fencing Fun has helped shape their/their children's lives in a positive way - gaining confidence, learning discipline or how to manage big emotions and deal with setbacks.

Salle Holyrood Fencing Club was created by the founders of Fencing Fun as a stepping stone for youngsters who wanted to move beyond plastic fencing. Probably 80% of members of the club since it started have come through the Fencing Fun programme. It has been running almost as long as Fencing Fun and is now a registered charity with genuine aims to change lives. They are very close to securing a home for the club in Leith - which will enable much of their charitable work, as well as creating the best possible environment for their existing members.

As you can imagine there are significant costs incurred in such a move and so they have started a crowdfunder to help with this.

If you can support this in any way, please do.

Shares and spreading the word are equally important!

We've popped the crowdfunder link into the first comment. Reach out too if you want to know more!

Salle Holyrood is on the move and we need your help to kit out the new venue and make it a place for us all to grow and improve.

14 years ago Sean Walton and Keith Cook had a dream: to create a club of the highest standard with a serious work ethic and structure which fostered and nurtured young people on their journey through the sport of fencing, a stepping stone for youngsters at Fencing Fun to move on to. Whether they became fencing stars or not, they would gain in confidence and skills for life.

That dream became a reality - Salle Holyrood is a club, and now registered charity, which has a reputation across the country for excellence, for bringing confidence, discipline and strong values to all its members. And yes, they have created many Champions - at Cadet, Junior and Senior Level. At home and internationally. But they have also created a sense of place and belonging for hundreds of people in Scotland, creating lifelong friendships and a love for physical activity and fencing in particular.

The dream they had 14 years ago has been fulfilled - almost. A key part of their vision however in creating Fencing Fun and Salle Holyrood all those years ago was to have a dedicated space, one they and all their members could call home. A space where dreams are born and people dare to believe that anything is possible - with hard work.

Today, Sean and Keith are so close to that vision becoming a reality as the dedicated trustees who carry Sean and Keith's vision, work to bring it to life, and negotiate on a lease for space in Leith in Edinburgh.

But they need your help to make this part of their dream a reality. The costs are high to get in the door and then kit it out as it deserves. But the rewards for their existing members, people in the local community as well as the wider fencing community are limitless.

To help raise the funds needed to get over the last few hurdles and across the finish line, the club is running a variety of fundraisers.

First up: an ONLINE AUCTION with some amazing prizes to bid for from time in the wellness suite from PureSpa to a 4ball at the beautiful Craigielaw Golf Course on the East Lothian coast or 2 nights accommodation in a stunning luxury apartment in the centre of Edinburgh.

Check out the prizes below and help dreams come true - but hurry, bids close at 9pm Saturday, 14th June.

A link to the auction is in the first comment.

This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a great night out and see world class fencing up close whilst supporting the club that has developed hundreds of Fencing Fun learners over the years - including 3 of the fencers who will be on show that night. Some of our current fencers may even recognise one of them as their coach! You can get tickets on the Fencing Fun website.

FUNDRAISING GALA DINNER

Why are we fundraising and why now?

Salle Holyrood is negotiating on premises in Leith, Edinburgh - it will be space that we can turn into a permanent, dedicated fencing Salle. But it's not cheap! We need to cover legal costs and other fees, as well as fit-out costs.

This space will give our members an even better environment in which to train, the local community opportunities to learn skills for life through sport and benefit the wider fencing community with another dedicated fencing space in Scotland.

With your help we can make it happen.

So get your tickets today for what will be a spectacular evening and support your sport.
