EdinburghJudo athletes have a great history at the Commonwealth Games.

From Auckland 1990 to Manchester 2002, Glasgow 2014 and Birmingham 2022, the club has had athletes selected whenever judo has been part of the Commonwealth Games programme.

Qualification for Glasgow 2026 has now finished and three EdinburghJudo athletes remain in contention for selection.

How many of our athletes will make Team Scotland?

Granite City Grand Prix

Seven players, two coaches and lots of parent supporters headed off to Aberdeen last weekend for the Granite City Grand Prix.

Navigating the complexity of competition day, and all it throws at people, was the order of the day, with lots of growth and development shown throughout the squad.

Keep working towards your goals and learning.

Thanks to coaches Craig and Evan for their support and encouragement and to parents for their support and trust.

Throwback to being โ€˜out outโ€™ for the Scotland v Ireland rugby game with some of the EdinburghJudo mums.

A boozy brunch, plenty of laughs, and certainly a change from the usual Saturdays spent at the side of the mat supporting the squad kids.

One of the best things about our club is the friendships and community that grow far beyond judo itself. From competitions and coffees to nights out and weekends away, it is special to see people come together through the club and build real connections along the way.

Archie, Evan and Nicco all competed in the London Area Open last weekend, along with Kirsty who volunteered her time as a referee over two days.

The weekend brought lots of learning, growth and development for everyone with some sightseeing thrown in for the boys too. Well done on your effort and results.

Today we celebrate as the driving force behind EdinburghJudo, Billy Cusack, turns 60. Whether as an athlete, coach, mentor or role model, Billy has dedicated his life to judo.

Billy believes in the power of sport to change lives. From Olympians and international players to children stepping onto the mat for the very first time, or seniors beginning judo in their later years, his passion, standards, vision and belief in people have impacted so many lives.

EdinburghJudo is what it is today because of his vision, hard work and commitment over many years.

Thank you for everything you continue to do for our club and community.

Happy 60th birthday, Billy. ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿฅณ

A big thank you and good luck to Andrea as she moves into a full time role with the governing body, with an opportunity to be involved behind the scenes at the Commonwealth Games.

Over the last three years, Andrea has been a big part of EdinburghJudo, helping to develop our social media, website, and the wider profile of the club, working together to create something special. More importantly, sheโ€™s grown a lot during that time, and weโ€™re really proud to see her take this step.

One thing we always want EdinburghJudo to be is a place where people can grow, develop confidence, and create opportunities for themselves, both on and off the mat.

However, Andrea is not going far. Sheโ€™ll still be in and around the club, continuing her own journey towards her black belt, surrounded by many of the close friends sheโ€™s made along the way.

Good luck and enjoy your new role.

A massive well done to all of our junior members who successfully completed their recent grading! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฅ‹

It was one of our busiest grading weekends at EdinburghJudo, and we are incredibly proud of the effort, commitment and dedication everyone put into their demonstrations to achieve their next grade. Billy and the coaches were very impressed by the level of technique shown by everybody who took part.

As always, it was great to see so many proud family and friends at the club, celebrating the success of our young judoka and supporting them throughout their judo journey.

Thank you to our team of coaches and staff for ensuring the gradings ran smoothly for everyone, .coffee for keeping everyone energised with coffee, snacks and ice cream(!), and to our wonderful club community for making EdinburghJudo such a great place to be.
