πͺ Aerial yoga can be gentle β but it can also get quite strong.
This is about as big as it gets in my aerial yoga classes, with this little flow building upper-body strength, even when you think you're focusing on the legs and gluts.
As we get older, maintaining and building muscle becomes increasingly important for healthy ageing, but itβs easy to focus on the legs and forget about the upper body. Strength in the shoulders, arms, back and chest supports everyday movement, posture, stability and independence β so it deserves some attention too.
One of the things I love about aerial yoga is that the hammock naturally brings more upper-body and core work into movements that might otherwise feel quite different on the floor. Even a relatively gentle aerial yoga practice can ask your body to stabilise, pull, press and support itself in new ways.
And that's the beauty of aerial yoga: it can be deeply restorative and relaxing, but it can also provide that extra strength-building challenge that helps keep your whole body strong, mobile and capable.
