There will always be someone who thinks you’re making the wrong decision.

The career change.
The promotion you went for.
The business you started.
The boundary you finally set.
The thing you said no to.
The thing you decided to try even though you weren’t 100% sure it would work.

And sometimes, the fear of what other people might think is enough to keep us stuck for YEARS.

But here’s the thing…

They don’t have to live with the consequences of you staying in a career that makes you miserable.

They don’t have to wake up on Monday morning and live your life.

You do.

So maybe the question isn’t “What will people think?”

Maybe it’s:

“What do I actually want?”

And then having the courage to listen to the answer. ❤️

📌 Save this for the next time you’re overthinking what everyone else might think.
✈️ Send it to someone who needs the reminder.

Feeling unhappy at work doesn’t automatically mean you’re in the wrong career.

And that distinction really matters.

Because when work has felt wrong for a while, it’s very easy to jump straight to:

😩 “I need to get out.”
🤯 “I’ve chosen the wrong career.”
👀 “Maybe I should retrain and do something completely different.”

But sometimes it isn’t the career itself.

It might be the culture.
The lack of challenge.
How little autonomy you have.
The fact you’re barely using your strengths.
Or simply that you’ve changed, but your working life hasn’t changed with you.

And if you don’t work out what’s actually making you unhappy, there’s a risk you change jobs and take the same problem with you.

That’s why career clarity isn’t always about answering:

“What should I do instead?”

Sometimes the much more useful question is:

“What exactly isn’t working for me anymore?”

🔖 SAVE this if work hasn’t felt quite right lately.

📤 SEND it to someone who keeps saying, “I think I need a complete career change…” 👀

Turns out the best entertainment wasn’t actually on stage 😂🥳

We went to Radio 2 in the Park in Stirling on Sunday as part of our new mantra for the rest of 2026:

HAVE. MORE. FUN. 🥳

As many of you know, the last seven months have been pretty tough for us, with a lot of grief and loss. So we’ve made a conscious decision to put more fun, laughter and things to look forward to back into our lives.

And honestly, I think this security guy was taking our new mantra even more seriously than we were. 😂

I absolutely LOVE seeing someone completely unselfconscious, singing their heart out and having the time of their life while technically at work. 😎🎉

So yes. More gigs. More days out. More laughing. More doing things simply because they’re FUN.

And now the important question…

WHO KNOWS THIS GUY?! 😂👇

Someone PLEASE tell me who he is. He absolutely made our day! 🥳

There’s a particular kind of stuck that’s really hard to explain.

You don’t necessarily hate your job.

You might be good at it.
You’ve probably worked hard to get where you are.
From the outside, your career might look absolutely fine.

But you keep having that niggling thought…

Is this it?

And that’s where people can get stuck for months, sometimes years, because they think they need to know what they want instead before they can do anything about it.

You don’t.

If this is you, start smaller. Ask yourself:

👉 What do I want more of in my working life?
👉 What do I want less of?
👉 What matters to me now that perhaps didn’t 5 or 10 years ago?
👉 If nothing changed, how would I feel about that in two years?

You might discover you want a completely different career.

Or a different role. A different environment. More challenge. Less pressure. Better boundaries. More meaning.

Or you might realise you don’t need to leave at all.

That’s one of the real benefits of career coaching. You don’t have to arrive knowing the answer. Working out the answer is part of it.

If that first slide felt a little too familiar, I currently have limited spaces for new coaching clients.

Send me a DM if you’d like to have a chat. 😊

Sometimes you need to get out of your own head before you can hear what you actually think.

I took this walk along the Welsh coast last month when I really needed some breathing space. And there’s something about walking, sea air and a ridiculously beautiful view that helps put things back into perspective. 🌊

Career decisions can feel HUGE when you’re stuck in the middle of them.

What if I make the wrong choice?
What if I regret it?
What if I’m giving up something good?
What if it doesn’t work out?

So we stay where we are. Even when a little voice has been telling us for quite a while that something isn’t quite right.

But taking a risk doesn’t have to mean handing in your notice tomorrow or completely turning your life upside down.

Sometimes the first brave step is simply giving yourself the space to work out what you really want.

I currently have a limited number of spaces for new 1:1 career coaching clients. If you’re feeling stuck, questioning what comes next or know something needs to change but you’re not sure what, send me a DM and we can have a chat. 💛

Well… this was a lovely bit of news! 🎉

I’m absolutely delighted that my business (Laura Ogilvie-Jones Career & Leadership Coaching) has been shortlisted for Service Excellence Business of the Year at the Women’s Enterprise Scotland Awards 2026!

And this particular category means a LOT to me.

Running my own business for the past seven years has definitely involved plenty of blood, sweat and tears (and a LOT of learning!), but I genuinely love what I do.

I love coaching my wonderful clients, helping them make positive changes in their careers and lives, and seeing the ripple effect that can have on the teams and organisations they work in.

I’ve always wanted my clients to feel genuinely listened to, supported and challenged, and for coaching with me to feel personal to them, rather than like a one-size-fits-all process.

So to now have 125 5* Google Reviews AND be shortlisted for an award specifically recognising Service Excellence feels pretty special.

A huge thank you to every single person who has trusted me to coach them over the past seven years, recommended me to someone else, left me a review or supported my business along the way. ❤️

I’ll be heading to Glasgow for the awards on 29 October. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Thank you Women's Business Centre for the recognition.

The job is brilliant. But there’s another part of this review I love even more. ❤️

When this client first came to me, she’d finished uni and been travelling, and wanted more clarity about what she wanted to do and how to get into the workforce.

Through our coaching, she started to make sense of the doubts and muddled thoughts, understand herself better and build her confidence.

And then… she got the job! 🙌🎉

A pretty lovely review to receive. And the fact that it happens to be my 125th 5⭐ Google Review makes it even more special.

Hence the chair spinning. 😂

If you’re feeling unsure about what you want next in your career, send me a DM and we can have a chat about whether coaching could help. ❤️

Ever felt like your confidence is quietly slipping, even though you’re achieving more than ever?

This is one of the most common things I see in my coaching work with senior professionals and leaders. And the really fascinating thing is that the people most affected are often the ones who look the most confident from the outside.

They’re hitting their targets, managing their teams, keeping up appearances. But privately they’re questioning themselves, losing their spark and wondering if they’re still good enough.

The good news? Awareness is everything. And once you name it, you can start to change it.

I talked all about this with Lucinda Carney on the HR Uprising Podcast. Does any of this resonate with you? I’d love to know in the comments 👇

Six months is both nothing and everything.

Think back to where you were just six months ago. The things you were worried about. The decisions you hadn’t made yet. The version of you that couldn’t quite see the way forward.

2026 has been a lot for many of us. Loss, grief, uncertainty. The kind of start to a year that knocks you sideways and makes you question everything.

But I found myself walking on Gullane beach at the weekend, feet in the sand, eyes on the sea, and something shifted. That quiet that only fresh air and open water can give you.

Here’s what I know after 1,000+ hours of coaching: most people don’t change because they wait for the right moment. They change because they finally decide the current one is no longer good enough.

If something in you is stirring right now, that’s not restlessness. That’s clarity trying to get your attention.

Save this for when you need the reminder. And if you’re ready to make the next six months count, my DMs are open. 💙
