A quick repost, nothing new! :
An update on our society this academic year ✨
Due to COVID-19 we are having to alter the way the society runs this year. Sadly, the performance gym will not be available to us (or any other sports society) this semester, as the uni is reserving the space for sports scholars only, so we are having to be creative with how we can support our members.
We will be offering a reduced membership fee at the start of the year, with the hope that next semester we can restart sessions in the performance gym which will be covered by a second payment. Membership will now cost £25 and will include a UoB Powerlifting t-shirt in addition to access to our revised plans.
We have decided the best way to support our members is through a mentor/buddy scheme; we will pair new lifters with more experienced lifters, offering help in choosing a programme and staying on top of training. While we are not qualified coaches, so cannot help with injuries or complex problems, we can offer advice and encouragement as you start your lifting journey! We will be releasing a questionnaire shortly for prospective members to gauge their experience and interests, and a second questionnaire for those interested in being a mentor, which will be used to match people up. We also have a group chat for our members which we will use to coordinate gym sessions and as a platform for socialising and motivating each other!
We are also excited to announce we are looking to hold our own inter-uni competition early next year in Birmingham, with the opportunity to experience a competition environment and to get a qualifying total for BUCS later in the year.

Stay safe, and we can't wait to welcome you 💪
