Stonewall Park Cricket Club

Stonewall Park Cricket Club Friendly village cricket club based in Chiddingstone Hoath, Kent. Kent County Village League members

We are Stonewall Park Cricket Club, a Cricket Club who are steeped in history; but as the game has evolved in recent years - we have too, where we have taken to the ever popular social media markets. The club began over 150 years ago with the first record of a match being played on the present ground is in 1861 against Falconhurst when our club is titled Stonewall Club on the scorecard. The earlie

st appearance of our current name Stonewall Park Cricket Club is in 1864. Stonewall Park House, which provides the backdrop to our wonderful ground, is a Georgian age house modified in Victorian times. It was at the date of this modification around 1860 that cricket transferred to the grounds of the present house. The Fleming family who live in Stonewall Park House are both supporters and players of the club. Indeed Matthew Fleming, who captained Kent and played for England, quoted Stonewall Park as his favourite cricket ground. Over the years, the ground and the pavilion has seen multiple changes; the original ground was very small and until 1964 the path from the pavilion to the cricket ground passed through a field. In 1964 the current brick pavilion was built with the help of a grant from a local benefactor. At this time the playing area was extended to reach the pavilion. The pavilion was extended again in the early 1970s via a wooden addition with a flat roof. The ground was extended again in the 1980s, which is why SPCC is one of a few grounds having a number of oak trees within the outfield; they were originally planted just beyond the boundary.

2011 saw a major extension to the pavilion facilities which has provided a more modern changing environment, and allowed the club to join the lKent Village Cricket Saturday League. We also celebrated 150 years of continuous cricket on our ground. We marked this achievement with a series of special matches and celebrations throughout the season. We believe that Cricket is at the very heart of a village community and it is something that is very important to us at Stonewall Park. It is interesting and perhaps typical that some of the names on one of our early scorecards feature again from our present local community. Last year brought a long awaited success for Stonewall Park, our first ever big trophy, as we became champions of the KVCL Division Five in only our second season in the league. This season we have done one better, picking up consecutive silverware as champions of Division Four for 2014, picking up more points than ever and winning a staggering 9 games in a row! Our spiritual headquarters is The Rock Inn in Chiddingstone Hoath, our meeting place for committee meetings, post match drinks/discussions and the venue for our end of season dinners. Through the use of our social media outlets in Twitter and this page, we endeavour to provide you with all the important information, such club news and match reports, keeping you updated with everything at SPCC.

What a start to life in Division 3. SPCC successfully defend 160 in style, bowling Betsham out for 64. Special mentions to Skipper Mike Wilson and debutant Jack Pearson, taking 6-39 and 3-15 in a hour long blitz away from home! We look forward to welcoming Pembury this weekend 🏏

Great game today vs
Timmy may rolling back the years
(Simply Red Style)
With a solid knock of 89 (great age)
Stonewall put up a solid 166 runs off 30 overs after the opening order collapsed just like the Greek economy, penshurst replied strongly with the bat, Kit scored 88 (not quite Timmy mays level) and a close game ensued with penshurst chasing down 167 with 3 balls to spare, special mentions go to Tony for a solid bowling spell, as well as Alfie who almost needed cpr after just 4 overs of bowling, and also to warren daley who scored a frightening 2 to as skipper to set fear into the oppos hearts.

Shout out Hugo for travelling all the way from London for another stonewall park TFC
(Thanks for Coming)

Very rarely do I need to apply a filter to make the ground look better, but today is particularly grim!

Fantastic work through the winter from means the square looks great as always.

Critical couple of months ahead as the square, ground and pavilion are readied for the new season.

Even some of the players may venture to nets!

Players wanted!

We are on a recruitment drive for the 2023 season to help bolster our Saturday League XI and our Sunday Friendly XI.

We operate two teams, the Saturday League XI play in Division 4 of the Kent County Village League and our Sunday XI play friendlies in the local area.

Our ground is in the beautiful Stonewall Park Estate, TN8 7DJ (https://goo.gl/maps/2tfcLV2QXXBygbRGA) with good facilities (pavilion, outdoor artificial net, indoor preseason nets at Holmewood House School, bowling machine etc) and one of the best squares in the league.

If you think you’d like to play your cricket at a friendly and welcoming club in a stunning setting then please get in touch either through Facebook or via email [email protected].

KCVL Division 4 status secured with a win over 2s in a well contested and enjoyable afternoon.

The Skipper's decision to bowl first was backed up by some superb attacking and tight bowling by James Penn] (9-1-19-3) Teabag (9-3-13-0) K Daley (4-1-15-0) (8-3-32-0) and Big Daddy (7-1-43-2). Amazing catch by Fred Quirk] in the gully the fielding highlight.

After the last tea for the league season the batsmen started well, with an uncharacteristically fast scoring 19 for starting things off. A bit of a wobble saw us lose (1) George Clark (4) and (12) before Fred Quirk] (29*) joined Wozza (31) Big Daddy (34) and then James Penn] (8*) to see us home.

Onwards to for the final league game of 2022 this Saturday.

A green oasis in a tinder dry oval!

Second place this Sunday in a close game against Hildenborough.

Fielding first in the sun we managed to keep them to 167 in their 30, with Wozza (3-28) and
(2-27)

A spirited chase, with a comical father/son run out, saw Kyle Heinz (70*), PJ (20) rolling back the years, and Kieron (20). Special metion to
sacrificing himself to a 0 no balls faced to get Kyle back on strike.

A very enjoyable and competitive Sunday.

On the receiving end of back to back hundreds for and good bowling by with Jamie Leppard leading the attack.

Tough hot day in the field followed by a too order collapse steadied up by Charlie Grant (44) and Wozza (38), late innings flurry from (28) made it a little more respectable.

Always nice to see long time friends and enjoy a beer and chat, well played Chidd.

Off to 2s next week.

Didn't quite get enough on the board to challenge title contenders but managed to get them 5 down.

Contributions from (21) and .bradley05 (30) the highlights with the bat, and Big Daddy (2-12), Teabag (2-30) and a hanging (1-36).

Special mentions for Ben Wells playing his first ever game, Graham W taking the gloves and putting the other three 'keepers' to shame, and an average boosting 5* for Smutty.

Onwards to local rivals on the back of a pair of giant innings from and

Could be a cracker.
