Emma Coleman takes second place in the Summer Spine Race Challenger North!

A great run from Emma, who crossed the line into Kirk Yetholm in 53hrs 52mins.

Behind Emma came Eleanor Walker. Eleanor, with a beaming smile, crossed the line in a fantastic time of 57hrs 10mins to round out this year’s female podium, taking a fantastic third place.

After 160 miles on course these two deserve a massive well done!

It’s not just about the challenge… the Spine Race is also about the people you meet along the way.

Among the runners Serena Broadway, Emma Peveril and Carl Hicks all crossed the finish line together at 10pm last night after an incredible 160 mile journey on the Summer Spine Challenger North.

It has been an emotional night in Kirk Yetholm, with volunteers welcoming a steady stream of finishers who have now spent over 3 days out on the most remote part of the Pennine Way.

With now more than 60 across the line, there are just a few Spine Challenger North runners out on course as they make their way over to Cheviots for a chance to touch the iconic wall at the Border Hotel.

They have until 12 noon today to make it over the line, and if all of them keep their pace up they can do it.

Just one final push!

Samuel Adams is our second man in the full Summer Spine Race in an incredible time of 91:34:55. Samuel travelled all the way from Alaska to participate and was met at the finish line by friends and family who presented him with an enormous and very well-deserved slice of pizza.

James Green rounded out the podium, coming in as 3rd man in a time of 94:46:40, just before 7am this morning after crossing that tough final Cheviot section overnight.

Some fantastic results from two brilliant runners!

Low Way Farm in Middleton-in-Teesdale is the 3rd official checkpoint along the route, over 150 miles in. It’s a welcome respite for runners looking for some much-needed rest and a chance to refuel at the famous Teesdale Tandoori.

The runners have until 8pm tonight to get through this checkpoint and avoid the dreaded cut off time. They are now over halfway through the route, but it’s still a long way to go…

Don’t forget that you can send runners encouragement and support through live tracking as they continue on their journey.

While our frontrunner is on the final push over the Cheviots, our backmarker, Jason Littlewood (194) has left the Tan Hill Inn and is making good progress towards Middleton-in-Teesdale.

He has until 8pm tonight to make it into Low Way Farm.

It takes real grit and determination for anyone to finish the Spine Race, but even more so when you’re towards the back.

These runners spend so much longer on their feet, battling through sleep deprivation night after night to reach that coveted finish line.

Good luck Jason, we’re all rooting for you!
