My knee, now upgraded with some shiny new hardware—holding my ACL graft together like it means business 🫣

Had my follow-up today and the surgeon says it’s solid 🙌 I mentioned I’m thinking of getting back on a horse soon… cue the look of horror 😅 followed by a gentle reminder that horses are, in fact, large and unpredictable.

So we’ve reached a very sensible agreement: I’ll ride this week… and make excellent life choices, like trying not to fall off 🤞🤣

Since everyone else has done one, here's mine 😅

Happy New Year! 🎉

A huge thank you to all of you—clients and friends alike—for your amazing support and loyalty throughout what’s been a busy, rewarding, and truly incredible year, packed with adventures and plenty of horsey moments 🐴.

It’s been an absolute joy working with so many fantastic horses and their owners, both familiar faces and new ones. I’m so grateful for the trust you place in me when it comes to your horses.

Work has kept me fully occupied lately—apart from a quick ski trip 🎿 since I’m not allowed to ski for a whole year after my ACL surgery. And in case anyone didn’t know—no, I didn’t take a tumble on the slopes! The surgery was planned well in advance.

Thanks so much for your patience over the next few weeks while I take some well-deserved time to rest and recover.

To keep myself entertained (and stop me getting bored!), I’m planning to dive into some CPD 📚—because there’s always more to learn about my favourite subject: horses!

Once I’m feeling fit and well again, I can’t wait to get back to doing what I love—helping you and your horses—and continuing this journey together.

Wishing you all a peaceful, happy, and fulfilling year ahead ✨

Very interesting, this is something I see a lot of. Horses having a great improvement after the first time, then after multiple injections a sharp decline.

People who know me, will have heard me saying very often, that the injection is to aid the rehabilitation and encourage the horse to move, not as a sticking plaster so you don't need to do the process of correct strengthening.

I'm in no way against steroids, as used carefully they are a great tool to help the horse feel better, and therefore be able to do the rehab work in better postural form with much better chance of a good outcome. I like to use supplements too, as they do help to support the horse, but the correct rehabilitation is key.

Two recent papers in the EVE Journal were punlished on the effects of corticosteroid injection sin joints. They were meta-analysis, meaning they took information from over 600 papers about this topic into account. This means the outcome of a meta-analysis is more reliable as an "overall opinion of scientists" than a single paper. Both papers show clearly that 1 injection in a joint (when needed, because acute joint inflammation is present) might be beneficial, but that more than 1 injection in the same joint will cause cartilage damage and degeneration of the joint. Think about that when you do "regular joint maintainance" or inject multiple joints without a clear indication.

Your vet should know this information!

🩹 Small Strips, Big Shifts 🐴

One of the quietest but most powerful tools in my kit is kinesio tape. There’s something fascinating about how a simple strip can help a horse feel differently — supporting awareness and balance without holding anything back.

The Murray State University study (2022) on taping around the hocks really caught my attention because it reflected what I often see in practice: gentle, consistent taping can influence movement quality and comfort, especially in horses working through hock-related issues.

Horses don’t tend to respond well to big, showy, dramatic therapies — their nervous systems are incredibly sensitive, and they often benefit most from calm, subtle approaches that allow the body to adjust at its own pace. That’s why I love tools like kinesio tape: quiet, supportive, and deeply effective when used with intention.

For me, that’s the beauty of this work — finding subtle ways to help horses reconnect with how they move. It’s not about restriction or correction, but about reminding the body what it already knows how to do.
