*Knee Strengthening* and *ITB*
Sharing for a friend....

These knee-strengthening exercises will help with your running, strengthen the muscles around the knee and prevent knee pain.

The exercises strengthen all the muscles supporting the knee and engages the iliotibial band, known as the ITB, which runs down the outside of the thigh.

They can be done as part of your warm-up before a run or as a cool-down routine after a run, outside or indoors, or whenever is most convenient.

✅ The gain is you can still kneel to do up your laces on your trainers, or take a photo of a little one🐾🐈! 😉👟📷

Great guidance from the 👏👏👏

🚷 Aging 🫣🤫🤔😬❓️ or...🤸‍♀️🏋‍♀️💃💪👌✅️

Perhaps the biggest issue isn't aging itself but gradually doing less. There is a difference between aging and deconditioning. Aging is inevitable. Deconditioning is often modifiable. When we stop challenging our bodies, we lose capacity. As everyday activities become harder, we may move less, which causes even more loss of capacity. Breaking that cycle early can make a meaningful difference. 🫣🤫

This doesn't mean you need to exercise like you're 25. In fact, trying to train like your younger self may not be the smartest💡 approach. You may need lighter weights🏋‍♀️, more recovery, modified exercises, or a slower progression. The goal isn't to prove how much you can do. The goal is to maintain enough physical capacity to keep doing the things that matter to you.👌🫶

Think of exercise as building a reserve for the future.💪 The strength you develop in your 60s can help you enter your 70s with more capacity. The balance ⚖️ and mobility you maintain in your 70s can help you remain independent in your 80s. And even at 80, there is value in continuing to train the abilities you want to preserve.

So instead of asking only, "How old am I?"🤔, ask a different question: "What can my body still do, and what am I doing to keep it that way?"🏃‍♀️🧜‍♀️🚶‍♀️🏋‍♀️🤸‍♀️💃

Because healthy aging isn't simply about adding years to your life. It's about preserving enough strength, balance, mobility, endurance, and confidence to continue living the life those years are giving you.

Most of us folk at RW6am running just keep doing 👌🏃‍♀️🧜‍♀️💪

💪 🏃‍♀️🧜‍♀️🚶‍♀️🏊‍♀️💪
Thanks Dr. Howard Luks for the reminder 👌💪

BALANCE + FEET ⚖️👣

If you scroll through advice on various sites that are dedicated to plantar fasciitis about 90% of the advice is based on which shoe you should buy to fix your problem.

The advice here on the other hand is about 90% focused on moving better to get to the root cause of your problem.

When each body part is doing it’s job properly and not being overloaded by some other part NOT doing it’s job, chronic injuries are much less likely to occur.

Seeking that balance is exactly what natural movement is.

We need get out of the bodies way and let it work like it already knows how. 💡⚖️

BALANCE ...think about it...🤔💪👣

Go climb a few rocks...
Nb zoom in, the only way I could climb to and from the fish sculpture was by trusting my body and my feet to move with strength and agility together 🐟🤍👣💪🫶

What Causes Side Stitches 🫣🤪 While Running And How YOU Can Finally End Them👇

Details to understand why, what, where and how are in the link above, however, on the
Bottom Line 👌🏋️🚶🤸
Side stitches are incredibly common and usually nothing to worry about. Most runners can resolve them with a few deep breaths, a quick stretch, or a temporary slow-down.

Still, prevention is your best bet: warm up, breathe deeply, avoid large meals before running, and strengthen your core.

And if the pain feels unusual or persistent, don’t hesitate to get it checked out.

* NECK PAIN ALERT * (Pain in the neck😬???)

Muscles get weak, so train them to get stronger. Simple exercises and rehab explained....worth a read!📚👏

“Core” strengthening for the neck, especially for all those folk :
➡️ Working from home 💻📞⌨🖱🖲
➡️ Attached to your Ipads, phones, games 📱📲
➡️ Avid readers 📚
➡️ Creative, Music and Craft makers 🎹🎸🎶🥁✂️ 👩‍🎨👩‍🎤
➡️ Most Trade Services that cause poor posture 👩‍🎓👩‍🍳👩‍🔧👩‍💻👮‍♀️👩‍🚒👩‍✈️

How to train your deep cervical flexors (DCFs) … if you must 🤔

As with any form of exercise, why not try? Time spent getting any kind of stronger 💪 is never entirely wasted. So how do you train your DCFs? 🤔

➡️ Basically you just tilt and tuck your chin repeatedly. (“Advanced” exercise!) Ideally you’d do that upside down, so that you’re lifting the weight of your head while you do it, but it’s not very practical😁. Next best thing is lying down …🛏😉

George never seems to get neck pain! Probably because she doesn't use a mobile phone or IPad! 🤳📱😉 However, she does love a screen especially when food and toy researching! 😁 🐾

Are you tired❓️💤💤💤😴

I spend a lot of time with clients/friends and patients who cannot figure out why they are so tired. 😴Here is the answer almost nobody wants to hear.🫣🤫

We are drowning in doing and calling it swimming.🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️

The car has a podcast. The walk has an audiobook. The shower 🚿has a waterproof phone holder now, which means we have officially run out of places in our lives that are allowed to just be wet and quiet.

Cooking dinner requires a show on the counter. Folding laundry requires a show on the phone. We voluntarily eliminated the last three minutes of unscheduled silence in our day, and we did it from a toilet.🧻

Someone invented a toothbrush that connects to an app.🦷🪥 Your teeth have a digital footprint now. We looked at the one activity that required nothing but an arm and some paste and said this needs WiFi.

You listen to a podcast while you exercise while you answer emails while you worry about something from yesterday. That is not multitasking. That is five things being done badly at the same time by a person who will later say I do not know why I am so tired.

Rest now requires equipment. A weighted blanket, a sound machine, a sleep mask, an app that plays rain sounds from a forest you will never visit, and a wind down routine that takes longer than the sleep it is supposed to produce.💤😴

We turned walking into a sport with metrics.🚶‍♀️ How far, how fast, what zone. You took a walk. The walk was nice. The walk does not need a performance review.

We eat lunch at our desk and call it efficiency. We answer emails 📧at dinner and call it dedication. We scroll 🤳in bed and call it winding down. We have renamed every form of self neglect as something that sounds like ambition.

Someone will read this while doing something else. Eating, walking, waiting in line, lying in bed. You did not even notice, because you are doing two things at once.

Your grandmother sat on a porch and stared at the street and called it evening. We would call that a waste of time. She would call what we are doing a waste of a life.

Your nervous system was never designed for constant input. It reads busyness as danger and stillness as safety, and it has not felt safe in years.

Put something down. Anything. See if you float.🧜‍♀️🌊

What is the one thing you are putting down? Comment it. Then go do nothing, gloriously, for ten minutes.

Thank you Dr. Laurie Marbas, a brilliant reminder for us all. 👌💙

Many that may know me, already realise the gadgets are off more than they are on, and not even on my person most of the time. Nb NOT because I'm asleep, I may be running or sea dipping 😁🫶💤🏃‍♀️🧜‍♀️🌊

🟢 Research Time - Exploring Achilles 🟢 Tendinopathy Treatment Strategies 🤔🦶

Today, we're diving into the world of Achilles Tendinopathy and unravelling effective treatment strategies……

The Tendon Continuum Model designed by Jill Cook is a conceptual framework that classifies tendinopathy injuries Let's break down how the Cook Continuum Model might apply to an Achilles tendon issue:
➡️ Stage 1: Reactive Tendinopathy
Description: This stage typically involves the early response to overload or stress on the Achilles tendon. It may include inflammation and pain.
🔴 Signs and Symptoms:
Pain during or after activity.
Tenderness and swelling around the Achilles tendon.
Possible initial structural changes, but often reversible at this stage.
✅️ Interventions:
Rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE) to manage inflammation.
Activity modification to reduce stress on the tendon.
Anti-inflammatory measures (e.g., NSAIDs).
➡️ Stage 2: Tendon Dysrepair
Description: This stage involves ongoing stress and damage to the Achilles tendon, with potential progression if not managed appropriately.
🔴 Signs and Symptoms:
Persistent pain during and after activity.
Possible thickening of the tendon.
Increasing structural changes.
✅️ Interventions:
Continued activity modification.
Eccentric exercises to improve tendon strength.
Assessment for biomechanical assessment and correction.
➡️ Stage 3: Degenerative Tendinopathy
Description: This stage reflects long-term, degenerative changes in the Achilles tendon, which may result in altered tissue structure and function.
🔴 Signs and Symptoms:
Chronic pain, especially with activity.
Structural changes evident on imaging (e.g., ultrasound or MRI).
Reduced tendon flexibility and increased stiffness.
✅️ Interventions:
Comprehensive physical therapy to address biomechanics and strength.
Eccentric exercises and stretching.
Modalities like shockwave therapy may be considered.
Assessment for possible surgical intervention in severe cases.

It's crucial to note that the optimal treatment plan varies for each individual based on the severity of the dysfunction, contributing factors, and the patient's overall health🤞🦶💪🏃‍♀️🏋‍♀️🚴‍♀️🤸‍♀️

Nice work on Frozen Shoulders 💪👏👏👏

This is more disease-like than most common musculoskeletal problems: a biological glitch, not a mechanical breakdown. Most notably, it is not a repetitive strain injury. In fact, if anything, it’s the opposite of an overuse injury: when it appears to have a “cause,” it’s more like an under-use injury, often triggered by a period of shoulder immobilisation, like being stuck in a sling after a fracture or stroke. But it may also occur after a trauma to the area, even when there is no pronounced immobilisation.

Age, or ......... 🤔🫣
You're not old. You're just out of tune. 💃🏃‍♀️💪

An example (not me 🤫)......For twenty years, my right hip has hit the same wall every single morning. I try to cross my right ankle over my left knee to put on a sock, and the joint just stops cold, halfway. I always told myself this was age. The machinery is rusting shut.🫣😬

I was wrong, and the science on this genuinely surprised me.

The largest study ever done on joint flexibility, over 6,000 people from age 5 to 92, found that stiffness isn't mostly about aging at all. Overall flexibility drops less than 1 percent a year, and the joints that stiffen most are the ones we stop using at their full range. Age explains only about half of it. The rest is simply what you do with the joint.

The real culprit is the chair. Sitting all day trains your hip to be still, and it gets very good at it. But here's the hopeful part. When you stretch consistently, you're not lengthening muscle. You're teaching your nervous system that a wider range is safe again. You're not old. You're just out of tune.💃🏃‍♀️💪👊

Five minutes a day can retune the whole thing.💪👌🦵👊

Go climb over those rocks, get out of the chair, go stretch your limits 🫶🏃‍♀️💃💪👊

Thanks Dr. Laurie Marbas for the reminder 👌👏🫶
