A walk won't fix everything.
Walking seemed such a pointless activity when I was younger. I probably wouldn't have called it even exercise.
But as I have aged, it has become a huge part of my life.
But why?
It helps to lowers your blood pressure. Burns a little stress. Gets your blood moving to muscles that have been sitting all day. Reminds your body what it feels like to move.
For me it clears my head after sitting in front of a computer and it is where I do most of my thinking.
Remember walking may even be a stepping stone to get more active. It may be a low intensity activity but for some it may get them out of breath.
Do you have to train legs? Of course, not but you may increase the use of a walking stick later in life. Let's talk sense walking is a daily task, if you cannot walk, life becomes difficult.
"I know people who can live off just 6 hours sleep a night". Indeed, but just like people who smoke and drink heavily, the risks are there. Less sleep equates to less energy, less cognitive function, reduced ability to deal with daily stress, increased risk of anxiety and increased risk of weight gain.
Sleep is something I have focused on heavily since leaving the military.
"I have ages until I feel the effects of aging". What you do in your younger years sets the foundation as we age. Yes, a little exercise later in life will start to improve your life, but why wait? Build the foundation and set the standard for your family to follow. It is never too late but do not leave it until it becomes difficult.
So, the most powerful thing you can do today is put one shoe on, then the other, and walk out the door.
What can a small walk actually do?
More than you will ever know.
Want to join me for a walk and chat s**t! You are always welcome.
