Who am I?

Well, isn't that one of life's great questions?
Hi, my name is Bryony, the lady behind Idle Yoga and honestly this picture is somewhat dishonest because it's from a few years ago now, before my two children have taken up all time I previously had to take fun Yoga pictures in delightful settings.

I will try to get better at this, but for now this is still more or less me, loving the outdoors, in casual clothes, (no designer gym kits here, friends!) I'm not great on the socials, but what I lack in this I make up for in true dedication and passion for the art of yoga. It's become an obsession, and the main hobby I have continued strongly since having my two darling daughters, who I dedicate most of the rest of my resources to these days!

I started practicing yoga on and off probably about 10 years ago, got fully into it during lockdown (the classic) and did my teacher training in 2020, mostly just being nerdy and wanting to indulge my curiosity.

I learned so much! Yoga fit in with my life so well, as a great addition to running, but as I realised everything the practice of yoga really encompasses, beyond asana and exercise, it helped me enormously with the mental load that used to drive this busy mind absolutely crazy. I learned to calm down, be present and appreciate life so much more fully. The benefits have honestly been wild. One example is that I used to fall over A LOT. No, I mean it, I'd go for a hike and stumble onto my face at least 5/6 times. Now I rarely ever do! But mostly, I feel like I am a more patient, positive and courageous person since finding yoga. And that's what I love to share now with others.

I didn't seriously consider being a yoga teacher at the time of completing my training in 2021, or not any time soon, but then I moved house, from Sheffield to Lound village and it turned out the local village hall was in need of a yoga teacher, so I thought, ah, why not!? Let's give this a go!

Over 5 years later, here we are! I have the most amazing group of yogis joining my weekly classes, and I have so much fun designing our classes and delving deeper into the practice. So now I'm looking to expand with my first little event for the summer solstice and who knows what next... stay tuned!

When it's hot outside, it's impossible to rush along at the pace of our productive modern lives. We are forced to slow down. You can't walk fast. You can't do yoga fast ir intensely. Or I don't feel I can or want to anyway!

So you take a gentler pace, feel your body, calm it down, and take time to see the flowers.

A lot of time heat in Yoga is seen as a way of creating more discipline or tapas, working harder to create that heat. I even had my first hot yoga class a little while ago, and though did feel the benefits of that kind of practice, I wonder if the natural heat can send us another message that is less about work and striving, and more about staying relaxed whilst the heat swirls around us. Tempers can rise in the heat, I know mine can, and that presents us with the mindful challenge of cooling ourselves down in whatever way we can muster.

We should bask in this rare heat, enjoy it despite its potential difficulties, and take a moment to do less if we have the privilege to do so this bank holiday. Wishing everyone well x
