⚽ CROWLE 1–2 RETFORD FC U18s
Game 1 | 6 September 2026

Retford FC U18s got their season off to a winning start with a hard-fought 2–1 victory away at Crowle, showing character and determination to come away with three points.

First Half — Retford Take Control.
Retford started slowly whilst Crowle looked more energetic to start.
As RFC settled into the game, the first breakthrough came when Jack produced a superb through ball for Max, who was able to exploit the space and put Retford ahead.

Becoming more assertive the team got another goal on the sheet, Sam slotted a strong ball into the near post with a tidy assist coming from Dalton.

Retford went into half-time with a deserved but hard fort lead.

Second Half — A Battle to the Finish

Crowle came out strongly after the break and put Retford under pressure, eventually finding the equaliser to make it 1–2.

Both sides battled hard, and the intensity increased as the match entered its final stages.

Despite the pressure, the lads continued to work for each other and refused to let the game slip away.

After a long layoff with only a few outings in pre-season, the well rested Oranges welcomed Spec's Jnrs hoping to see their way to an opening day victory.

The Oranges started quickly with Jack and Xander building from the back and debutant Henry going close on multiple occasions causing the away team big problems. However, it was George who they need needed to keep an eye on and didn't see his quick fire hatrick coming.

Tobias had very little to do in the FC net due to the excellent defensive effort in the second quarter by Santino and Quinn. Rupert had joined the attack and carried the ball well and was unlucky not to add to the scoresheet.

The second half was a much closer game with some tough tackling by both sides leading to a scrappy affair. A strong direct run from Xander led to a well deserved goal stretching the hosts lead. Spec's managed to pull back before Toias added goals of his own.

Well done to the lads!

Sherwood Colliery v Retford FC Ladies u16.

A glorious afternoon greeted the newly promoted and champions Retford U16 girls to play Sherwood Colliery Ladies, away at Mansfield in what will be a much tougher league 2.
A summer that kept the majority of the playing squad together but slimmed numbers meant a squad of only 11 travelled. Tired legs and knocks from Saturday games meant an air of nervousness before kickoff.

A solid first 20 mins followed with numerous chances without testing the Sherwood keeper and only balls over the top concerning Retford.
Just after the 20 min mark, a forward pass did eventually end up in the back of the net for the hosts. A collision with the brave Issy in the Retford’s goal with a Sherwood forward, which could have easily been a free kick meant the ball broke free to allow Sherwood to score, to many protests from the visiting coaches, players and parents.

The rest of the half fizzled out with more tame attempts at the Sherwood goal, a free kick from a back pass and a disallowed goal for the hosts with an offside given.

The second half Retford came out rejuvenated, 45 mins in, a free kick and Megan lifts one over the keeper from 20 yards. Now they had the upper hand.

50mins a corner from the never tired Grace, a melee, Abbie tap in! 65mins a tired Megan slide rule pass, with the hard working Molly finishing! Well deserved!
A water break followed and Retford took their eyes off the ball, against the run of play Sherwood grabbed one back, 3-2, could this be a nervy finish?!

Last 5 mins Retford took control, backed by the vociferous parents a Molly through ball, Laila finished. Pressure off.
Last couple of mins now Molly drives through, a free kick that could have been a penalty and Grace got her reward, power took it past the keepers hands. Last min now, a corner, good work by Laila again putting the pressure on.
Another pinpoint Megan cross from then corner and Laila finishing off her good work with another tap in.

A committed and gutsy team effort where everyone played their part from defence to attack.

Match Day Report

Sunday 6th September 2026
Kick Off: 10.45 am

Retford FC U10 Green V Warmsworth Lions AFC U10

Manager: Lee and Adam

Today marked the beginning of a new chapter for the boys, with Lee and Adam taking on their new roles as managers, David stepping up as captain, two brand new players joining the team, and a few temporary changes to player positions.

Despite all the changes, the boys settled in brilliantly and got off to a fantastic start. It was clear straight away just how much they have grown as a team over the last couple of months.

The communication between the boys was excellent throughout, and they really put all those focused training sessions into practice. There was some fantastic passing, good movement off the ball and a real willingness to work together as a team.

Warmsworth’s goalkeeper was certainly kept busy and was on fire, making some brilliant saves. He denied an attempt from David, before quickly reacting to save the rebound from Ishe too. Some fantastic goalkeeping!

At the other end of the pitch, Ire was a true warrior in defence, battling hard and doing everything he could to keep Warmsworth’s attacks under control.

David and Matias were absolutely relentless, constantly running the length of the pitch and giving everything from start to finish. Their work rate was fantastic.

With Gio stepping out of goal to play outfield, Jenson stepped up and took on the goalkeeper role. Jenson made some important saves and did a brilliant job of keeping Retford in the game. Meanwhile, Gio was enjoying his chance outfield, winning the ball and helping drive it forward towards the Warmsworth goal.

Then came the rewards for Ishe, who produced two fantastic runs on separate occasions, showing great determination and finishing them off with two well-deserved goals!

Taylor was incredibly focused throughout, working hard to win the ball and then driving forward with it whenever he got the opportunity.

And what a debut for our two new players!

Alfie showed off his running ability, making some great runs and showing exactly what he can bring to the team.

George looked right at home in defence, putting in a strong performance and showing off his powerful kicks to clear the ball all the way to the other side of the pitch.

And there was still time for one final defensive moment before the whistle. Orly spotted a Warmsworth player making a fantastic run towards goal and chased him down. With great determination, Orly put in a brilliant tackle at exactly the right moment to win the ball and prevent the danger from getting any closer to goal. What a way to finish!

Most importantly, the boys looked like a team — supporting each other, working for each other and putting their training into practice.

MATCH REPORT

RETFORD FC U10 BLUE v GOOLE

Retford kicked off the 2026/27 season at home with a hard-fought game against a very strong Goole side.

From the opening whistle, it was clear there was very little between the two teams. Both sides started brightly, competing well across the pitch and looking to create opportunities whenever they could.

As the game progressed, chances came at both ends, but both defences were in excellent form and worked tirelessly to keep the opposition out. It remained an evenly matched contest throughout, with neither side able to find the breakthrough.

Retford continued to push and came agonisingly close with a great opportunity just clearing the crossbar.

The final whistle brought an entertaining and competitive opening fixture to an end.

There was no individual Player of the Match this week – the entire team deserved the recognition. Every player worked incredibly hard from the first whistle to the last and produced a fantastic team performance against very good opposition.
