Looe Rowing Club Set for Historic World Championships as Huxter & Davy Opticians Back Two Crews. The countdown for Scillies is on🚣

Looe Rowing Club is preparing for one of its most exciting appearances yet at the World Pilot Gig Championships, taking place from 1st–3rd May 2026 on the Isles of Scilly, and will do so with the valued support of

The well known local opticians, with branches in Looe, Torpoint, Padstow and Kingsbridge, have stepped forward to sponsor two of Looe’s crews: the Ladies Vets A crew and, in a landmark moment for the club, a brand new Under 25 crew making its debut at the Championships.

A Club First: Under 25 Crew Takes to the Water

This year marks a significant milestone for Looe Rowing Club as it enters an Under 25 crew at the Championships for the very first time. The category, open to rowers aged 25 and under, is a relatively recent addition to the event and provides an important pathway for developing young talent within the sport.

“We’re incredibly proud to be fielding an Under 25 crew at Scilly for the first time,” said a club spokesperson. “These are the next generation of Looe rowers, and to have them competing at this level is a huge moment for the club and the wider community.”

The debut has been made possible in part thanks to the support of Huxter & Davy Opticians, whose sponsorship helps offset the significant costs of transporting gigs, equipment and crews to the Isles of Scilly.

We’re delighted to share that Tencreek are sponsoring Looe Rowing Club for the coming year and you can support the club at the same time by coming along to their brilliant live event ‘The All Seasons’.

The All Seasons bring the unforgettable sound of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons to life, with slick harmonies, high energy and all the hits you know and love – from Sherry and Big Girls Don’t Cry through to December, 1963 (Oh What a Night).

If you’ve seen them before, you’ll know how good they are, and if you haven’t, you’re in for a real treat!
