💜 Give me the wild children. 💜

The ones who ask a hundred questions before breakfast.

The ones who collect sticks, stones, feathers, bugs, and random treasures that somehow end up in every pocket, washing machine, and handbag.

The ones who sing loudly when everyone else is quiet.

Who climb too high, run too fast, laugh too hard, and feel everything with their whole hearts.

The children who are told they're "too much."

Too noisy. Too sensitive. Too energetic. Too curious.

But maybe they're not too much at all.

Maybe they're exactly as they were meant to be.

A world that values sitting still, fitting in, and following the rules can sometimes forget that innovation, creativity, courage, and wonder often come wrapped up in muddy knees and endless questions.

The wild children become the adults who dream differently.

Who challenge ideas.

Who create.

Who care deeply.

Who refuse to accept that things must stay the way they've always been.

So here's to the wild ones.

The adventurers. The explorers. The tree climbers. The horse lovers. The puddle jumpers. The big feelers. The big dreamers.

May they never lose the sparkle in their eyes.

And may we remember that our job was never to tame their spirit...

Only to help it grow. ✨❤️

Burnout in children is real — and it often doesn’t look the way adults expect.

When we hear the word “burnout,” we usually think about exhausted adults trying to juggle work, responsibilities, and stress. But children can experience burnout too, especially when they are constantly overwhelmed, masking their struggles, under pressure, emotionally exhausted, or unsupported in environments that don’t meet their needs.

Burnout in children can present as:• Increased anxiety or emotional outbursts• Withdrawal, shutdowns, or appearing “flat”• School refusal or avoidance• Exhaustion after school or social situations• Loss of confidence or motivation• Difficulty concentrating or remembering things• Increased sensory sensitivities• Aggression, irritability, or being labelled “challenging”• Physical symptoms such as headaches, stomach aches, or sleep difficulties

Sometimes what looks like “bad behaviour,” “laziness,” or “lack of effort” is actually a child whose nervous system is overwhelmed.

Education settings and carers need to understand that burnout is not solved by more pressure, stricter consequences, or telling a child to “try harder.” Children need:• Psychological and emotional safety• Understanding rather than punishment• Predictability and reduced overwhelm• Rest and recovery time• Adjustments and accommodations• Trusted adults who listen and validate their experience• Environments that support regulation, not constant survival mode

Children do well when they can. If a child is struggling, the question should not be “What’s wrong with them?” but “What has happened to them?” and “What support do they need?”

Compassion, flexibility, and understanding can make a life-changing difference
